Staring at the clock was the thing I did most during the day. Just waiting until I could go home. I would click my pen or stare at my feet if that meant I was wasting time. I couldn't bare another hour in this hell hole. My boss David is a crotchety old man with not a single ounce of happiness to keep him going during the day, which means I get stuck with the late night shifts while he shows up for only three hours in the morning before going back home for a nap. It really puts pressure on me since I am one of two employees at this bookstore. After the last customer comes and goes I decided to gather myself for home, luckily it's only a five minute walk from my apartment so it's not that dreadful.
Making sure I walk where the streetlights shine just for safety precaution. Oh the joys of being a woman walking alone at night. Sometimes i spook my self by glancing at a tree too fast and mistaking it for a persons figure watching me.
Other than that I really do love living in Venice. New York just wasn't for me though . Yes I had lived there most my life but I never actually had a real connection with it like how I do with California. It's just something about the way the sun kisses your skin on long summer nights, or how you can hear the waves crash on the coast.
Once i reach the inside of my apartment i shrug my jacket off before tossing it on the couch, i make my way over to the fridge pulling out a bottle of rosè from the rack and pour it into a wine glass.
Friday's were always my favorite. You could always go out and not feel obligated to set a drink limit for yourself, being that you don't have to dread a hangover the next morning while having to be at work. There was only one person who I actually go out with and have a fun time, my bestfriend. There's nothing I wouldn't do for her. Part of the reason I came to California was to support her and her music career when it was just taking off.
While curled up on the couch, looking through my phone and sipping my rosè with no plans in set whatsoever I get a call.
"Hellooo?" I giggle as I already see the caller id.
"Hi silv, how was work?"
"It was good liz, how about you? Oo wait how's that new guy treating you so far? Or are we onto bigger and better things?" I ask, even though I can't remember his name.
"Well definitely bigger... His name is Francesco, and he's good" liz huffs a laugh before switching the conversation in a different direction. "Anyways I was calling because I was wondering if you'd want to go out with me and a group tonight?"
"Mm who's gonna be there?" I wonder while wiping my nude lipstick off of the rim of my glass. I'm not really good at talking to people who I don't know, or good at making friends.
"Just some mutual friends of mine, you remember Miles Kane, and taylor from that house party I held a while back?"
"Can't say I do.. but why not, I need a night out after work, fuck it." I quickly gather myself off the couch and head to my closet, setting the phone on speaker so I can hear while deciding what to wear.
"You won't regret it I promise, I've been wanting to introduce you to many people for awhile! For fucks sake Silvia your finally gonna meet new people!" She teased before snorting a laugh.
"Haha funny.... wait what should I wear? Casual? Casual fancy-ish? Fancy? I don't know I don't do these things help me!" I groan at how pathetic I am. It's just a group of new people not the end of the world, get a hold of yourself.
"Just wear something that's comfortable for a night out to drink, but not too comfortable that you'll fall asleep."
"Got it, text me the address?" I say while touching up my makeup and adding some eyeliner.
