Megan

I listened intently as Mason narrated bits and pieces of his past. He was passionate as he spoke, and emphasized every detail, which proved an appealing addition to our conversation.

As appeasable as the conversation was in itself, my attention strayed away quite frequently as the five o'clock shadow that developed around his jawline became rather distracting.  I dared to trace my tongue down it's steepness, to stroke the slight stubble that had formed within the last few days. Behave, I scolded myself, as I endeavored to divert my attention back to our discussion.

His jaw line was perfection, though, and endorsed the elegant features of his godly face. I clenched my thighs together tightly, as the familiar sensation gathered between my legs that had become an unceasing happening lately.

Mason embodied that type of physical demeanor—he left me craving him more of him with every encounter. My body was automatically drawn to him in ways I had never experienced in the past, and I had become insatiable. Sex mad, and insatiable, I smirked.

I reluctantly brushed aside my devious thoughts to fully devote my attention to him. He disclosed details of him growing up in a small town, his parents, and other minor details that hadn't really heightened my attention span.

Coincidentally, Mason grew up in close proximity of my prior home in Texas, merely a few miles from my hometown in Wimberly. Both of his parents were deceased, and he had inherited some type of family business is what I gathered of his revelation.

"Don't you find it rather odd that our paths hadn't crossed sooner?" I retorted. "I lived fairly close to you, a few minutes away actually."

"It all boils down to fate, baby," he withered. "Timing wouldn't have been right, and things wouldn't have turned out the way they have if we had met sooner. Everything happens for a reason."

I nodded in agreement. Fair enough.

"And your parents? What happened to them, if you don't mind me asking? You're fairly young to have lost both of them so soon," I quizzed.

"Dire circumstances, Megan. The line of work my parents preferred ultimately became a means to their end. They were fully aware of the consequences of what their duties entailed, and fate had it's way," he trailed.

I brushed my leg against his, as a distraction— a hopeful distraction that would bring him back from the darkness that consumed him before me as he rehashed out his painful past. He glared up at me. There was immense danger painted in his blue eyes.

I hesitated as I studied his bewitching features. Fear, followed by panic engraved deep within his pitiful face. He now had my full attention. What was he so afraid of? Why the sudden change of spirit?

"I'm a dangerous man, Megan. I've done a great deal of terrible things in my life—things I'm certainly not proud of—and I wouldn't blame you if you chose to leave now," he started.

What? Was this some sort of warning? He couldn't possibly want me to leave now...did he?

"You certainly don't seem dangerous, Mason," I placed emphasis on his name as I inched closer to him, brushing my fingers across his forearm. Despite his recent revelations, I sensed no danger in this man. Given his warning, I determined the risk of being with him outweighed a life without him at all. He had me hooked— I was putty in his hands, and there was no way I would ever leave him. The possibility of Mason not in my life wasn't a life I was interested in. It was love at first sight.

"You don't know the real me, Megan. This isn't me." He glanced around the room, as if seeing it for the first time.

"This success I've amassed isn't one I've attributed on my own—it was handed down to me in the worst way imaginable. It's not your place to partake in my business matters, but if you must know, I am a gangster. That is my job. And it's a rather dangerous one. If you do choose to stay, you will become involved in my affairs. I owe it to you to know what you're getting yourself into," he trailed.
