it was 1 year, 22 weeks, and 4 days since the BAU buried their friend and former colleague. Spencer lost the love of his life. he was welcomed back to the BAU without any consequences. he also visited my grave everyday and talked to me. he brought me my favorite flowers. remembering how my eyes glistened when I talked about them. it brought him a little comfort. he never stopped crying. he cried every night since that day. one day at work he sat at his desk shaking his right leg. he stared at his blank computer screen, thinking. he glanced over the photo of us kissing. he pushed it away. Hotch called everyone into the conference room. Spencer let out a huge sigh and got up and sadly trotted to the round table.
he slumped down into the seat, dreading the thought of a new case. that was when I walked in. his back faced me so he didn't see me. everyones face went blank and their breathing stopped. he furrowed his eyebrows and turned around. he saw the woman he loved, the woman who he buried more than one year ago, standing before him. it seemed a little angelic and he rubbed his eyes. it was real.
I smile at the sight of him. he stood up. "Lilah?" his voice cracked and eyes began to water. "Spencer" he pulled me into a big long and tight hug. he cried into my shoulder as he nuzzled his head deeper. my eyes teared up and so did everyone else's. "I'm so sorry Spence." the hug lasted forever. it had been one year since he held me. one year since he touched me. "I have someone you should meet." I say as I wave my arm signaling someone to come in. a little boy with brown curly hair and my green eyes ran in.
he wrapped around my leg, hiding from everyone. he was a shy boy, just like his dad. "this is Jason. your son." those words stopped him, he was named after Jason Gideon. "I have a-" he looked at the boy again. Penelope was crying harder than Spencer at this point. "a son. you're a dad Spence." he let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding in. I got to Jason's level and spoke softly. "remember how I told you about your dad? those talks we had everyday? that's him." I pointed at Spencer.
he shyly walked over and Spencer knelt down. the little boy wrapped his arms around Spencer's neck and picked him up. he gently swayed back and forth, crying. even Hotch cried at the sight. "I had to go Spencer..." I began. "after I got shot and the business we were in together, it was too dangerous to come back until it was safe. and along the way I had this little guy." I ruffed his hair. Spencer looked at me and embraced me into a big hug with his open hand. "I didn't want you to go through that alone Lilah." those words made my heart flutter. "I'm sorry..." I muttered. it was my turn to cry. Spencer said he would protect me but deep down he knew he would be enough. it was safer for me fake my death and move away.
*4 years later*
"woah! slow down there." Spencer chuckled as he watched his son run along the hallway towards his sister's room. Spencer became a full time professor after a year of being back at the BAU. "hey." I said on the phone. his wife of 3 years was at the airport, coming back from a long case. "hi." he placed his hands on the granite kitchen counter, watching our almost 5 year old son struggling to push the newborn baby's stroller. through the phone I could hear Jason little giggle and could envision what was happening. "he's adorable with Bella." Spencer named our daughter after the star, Bellatrix. one of my favorite dates with Spencer was when he took me stargazing in an open field back when we first worked at the BAU together. I excitedly pointed out the star and Spencer couldn't stop smiling as I rambled on about my favorite star. he never forgot that night.
on the night I went into labor, he was driving down the freeway to get me to the hospital. as he gazed into the sky he noticed one star stood out that all the others. it was my star. that's how we got the name. "yeah, they're beautiful." Spencer slightly shivered in the cold house. "hey I found something while I was playing." Spencer furrowed his brows and turned around. Jason held up a book that had looked as if it had been around a million years.
"I-I thought I lost this years ago." one drunken night a year after my 'death' he stumbled his apartment and misplaced the book. everyday he beat himself up about it and felt so guilty he cried every morning and night. but today, he felt so happy. the once cold room was warmed up, like something unexplainable caused the sudden warmth. the furnace was broken so it wasn't that. "I don't think you'll be able to read it, it's really worn out and I'm not sure how or if you want a new one. I'm sorry." he wrapped his arms around his son. "thank you." they embraced until our son called out it was time to pick me up from the airport. he handed Spencer the book and Spence placed a kiss on his cheek, but he rubbed it off in embarrassment. Spencer placed the book on the counter. he smiled and wiped under his eyes to clear the new tears forming. he took a shaky breath and looked up, noticing a small photo inside the book sticking out. he plucked it out, it was our second anniversary which happened to fall on February 2nd. we were in a bear hug and Spencer was kissing my head. he carefully placed the book on his dresser and pocketed the picture, making his way to the door and off to get me. no matter how much time went by he'll never forget the first time I looked at him and how he fell in love.
