Sapnap never liked the winter. It was too cold, dull, and lifeless and it made him feel the same. There was one too many nights were he stood outside or sat in the snow just waiting for something to happen but nothing ever did. He did this a lot when he needed to catch his breath and take a break from whatever was going on in his life. Most nights he needed a breather from his two best friends, and boyfriends, Dream and George.

They never did anything really wrong. But occasionally they kind of just... forgot about him. Sometimes they left him alone to sleep on the couch while they went up to either one of their rooms to cuddle, which left Sapnap to wake up a cold, shivering mess. Other times they left on trips or dates and left Sapnap behind. He never brought it up though, he assumed that if they didn't want to be with him then they wouldn't want to speak to him either. Eventually, he didn't hurt just emotionally anymore.

His chest ached some nights and over time the pain began to become more and more frequent. It wasn't the same pain one feels when rejected but it was like he had a chest cold. There was one day when the pain in his chest dulled, when Bad and Callahan came from town to visit the trio. Dream, George, and Sapnap were huddled together on the couch talking with their visitors and Sapnap had never felt so relieved. Finally, after months of nothing, he was sandwiched between his two lovers. They held him closely and he couldn't even concentrate on the conversation after having been so touch starved.

Just a few hours after Bad and Callahan left, Dream and George already retired to their rooms, leaving Sapnap on the couch to finish some comedy movie by himself he didn't pay attention to. He thought about it and knew deep down they just wanted to be without him. All these frustrations about his relationship bubbled in Sapnap's mind for ages but he didn't think he could ever voice them, not without completely ruining things between the three. The rest of the winter was spent in a cold daze and wishful thinking.

Some day in spring after all the late winter snow melted, Sapnap couldn't stand the silence. His boyfriends -if he could even call them that anymore- left early in the morning to go to town for whatever reason, last year they would've taken time to wake him up since he wasn't a morning person and they would've lain with him until early afternoon and they would've- would have. They would have. Would. Used to. Now Sapnap stood in the doorway waiting for them to come home like a clingy puppy. When they did come home he would have expected himself to greet them with a hug at least. Instead, he awkwardly watched them walk down the path and poke and laugh at each other. His heart simultaneously shattered and swelled. Gently closing the door, he took a few seconds to compose himself and slumped onto the couch.

They stumbled in a few moments later and Sapnap looked up at them.

"Hi." He spoke uncharacteristically quietly, almost as if he was scared of what they had to say to him- or what they didn't say to him.

"Hey, Pandas," and there it was. That's exactly why Sapnap cannot just up and leave. Dream smiled at him and Sapnap felt inclined to smile back. Butterflies flitted around in his stomach but quickly burned away at the sight of George. The brunette wasn't glaring at Sapnap but the eye contact he was holding wasn't exactly friendly either. Was it pity? Or envy? Could it be hate? Before Sapnap could figure it out, George pulled Dream away into their room. Did Dream even notice? Did he care? Sapnap sighed and sunk further into the soft cushions of the couch. The ravenette closed his eyes and took in a shuddered breath.
