"Hey, Newt!" Alby shouted while looking at the fields sector where the blonde guy was. Few seconds later Newt waved and left the person who he was talking to behind and started running to them. The dark skin guy also started walking to Newt and they encountered around two meters far away from y/n.
"Everything alright?" He asked.
"No, nothing's right. Things are starting to change and we still don't know the reason why! Please take her to the Glade tour while I figure some shit out" Alby said and immediately left walking in a fast speed. Y/n didn't do anything but stand there listening to them. Newt sighed. Then he walked closer to her.
"How was the medical checkup?" He said with a gentle smile.
"It was fine, though, I don't know if I can trust two 16-17 year old boys with my health" she joked.
"Oh come on! They're our best Medjacks in the glade" he responded back. She giggled for the first time since she got there. She stopped immediately when she realized and gulped.
"Right, well, we must start this tour as soon as possible" Newt paused for a second.
"Please! No one has explained anything and my mind is about to explode with all these questions inside" she said.
Newt nodded.
"Where do I begin?" he said. "This area, is called The Glade. And as you might've seen it is divided in four sectors" He started walking to the fields where crops where being grown. "These are called The gardens. That right there is The blood house where we keep our animal stuck. The place you went to a few minutes ago is The Homestead and that sector with trees is the Deadheads"
He continued to explain that every person in the area has to have a stablished work so there is order and everyone participates in the system. Later, he said that no one remembered anything just like her, when they got here. They've tried to figure out how and why they were there for years but nothing new, until the guy Thomas came in the box and things started changing.
"How did things start changing after him?" she asked.
Newt rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, we sort of have started to find new stuff. And the atmosphere is just... different. Kinda hard to explain"
She nodded and raised her eyebrows.
"Everything seems too crazy to be true" y/n said.
"It is" he sighed and looked down. "The Creators of these place are pure evil".
"And... what about what's outside there?" She asked pointing to the outside of the concrete walls.
He looked at the sky for a second. "The sun is about to set in a few minutes. You'll see, but first let's get you something to eat" He said.
They walked to the kitchen near the Homestead.
"Hey, Fry!" Newt said.
"Are you here again to take my food?" a guy with a black apron said from the inside of the kitchen.
"Well-" Newt was about to respond back but stopped as soon as he noticed something.
"Shuck. Greenie, I'm so sorry, I haven't asked your name. It's been a rough week and I completely forgot" he said.
"Oh it's fine. I'm y/n" she answered.
Newt smiled and then grabbed her carefully by her shoulder. "Well, as I was saying, our friend y/n right here, has not eaten anything since she got here! Could we at least get a juice Frypan?" He said.
"Last time" Fry said raising his eyebrows as a threat.
Newt went to the refrigerator grabbed two small apple juice-boxes and handed one to y/n. They both opened the straw and inserted it on the box.
"You're Newt right?" She said after taking a few sips.
"That's me" he said. She smiled. Hanging out with that guy brought her peace for the first time in the area.
Then the peace she found was broken immediately after loud intense sounds started to fill all the atmosphere. She dropped the juice box and started glancing around quickly. She noticed the huge walls started to move as if they were about to close.
Newt looked into her eyes and noticed the fear she was starting to get. "Hey, come here, it's okay" he said, picking up the juice and guiding her close to a wall. After the concrete stopped doing the terrible sound and the doors closed with a horrendous crack, he said "Outside, there's a maze. Don't ask me why. Every night the pathways change and the walls move. We have runners to help us explore the maze, but that only happens during the day because if you get stuck there after the doors close, you're dead" he said on a serious tone. "There's bad stuff out there, it's really dangerous. If there's one thing we can thank the creators from this place is that they close the doors and protect us from the grievers" he said knocking his fist on the concrete.
Y/n tried to process all that information at once. Maze? Grievers? Being stuck out there...? What did it all meant? Everything sounded ridiculous. She didn't think she could ever get used to in a place like this.
"Look, it's time for dinner" he said pointing to the bonfires that were a bit far away from there. "You can ask questions while we eat alright?" He said while handing her back the juice.
"Alright" she smiled.
The British boy and y/n walked through the glade until they got to the center where everyone was gathering to eat. Newt started talking to another glader about work so she walked to the kitchen and grabbed two plates.
She looked around to see who to sit with but her social anxiety didn't let her just walk up to someone random.
Before she could decide what to do, Newt waved her and sign her to sit with him.
"Here's your food" she said handing him the rice and steak they were having for dinner. Newt shyly responded "Oh thanks" then he cleared his throat and they both sat.
