Dex had left pretty early for his meeting. Bex would've followed after him, but her mentor had come over again. She couldn't help but grumble; she knew that she was lucky to have manifested, at least in the eyes of the other elves - she was the daughter of a Bad Match, and a triplet.

There was something really satisfying about proving everyone else wrong.

But that didn't stop her from hating her mentor. Bex did not do well with rules and strict people.

Honestly, she didn't do well with any restrictions, much less rules and teachers.

She, Lex, and Rex ended up in detention four times out of five, which certainly did not improve them in the eyes of their mentors'.

Dex still wasn't home by lunch time, and Yola had let Bex out early.

She hovered by the door where Lex's session was taking place - and immediately left as she heard what he was saying. How dare he? She fumed.

Bex made a mental note to talk to Lex about it later, whether to ask if he was okay dealing with that on a constant basis, or just to come up with some new ways to prank his mentor, she didn't know. Maybe both.

She groaned and fell back on her bed, spreading herself out over her large, blue-covered bed.

Sometimes, she wished she could live the life of a human - blissfully uncomplicated and unaware.

They totally spoke her language, but the ironic part was that she actually had no idea how to speak any of their languages.

She fidgeted with her lip. Hmm.

Bex let her head droop over the side of her bed. With her mind lazily wandering wherever she let it, she wondered what it would be like to actually go back to school.

She was mildly curious if anyone would even care that she and Lex had manifested. Maybe, she thought, it would be quite the scandal - the daughter of a Bad Match, and two triplets, manifesting?

Bex thought about this girl, Elora, and whether Elora would be surprised or not.

Or, y'know, any of your other friends, she reminded herself. They'd probably support me, too. Not just Elora.

But that didn't stop Bex's thoughts from . . . .

No, she told herself. That's not - no.

And the word kept echoing around her head. That seemed to be the only word she heard these days: no.
