5. Too Much
"Everything was too much, it builds and builds and builds. Until it finally consumed them all. Their sins killed them all."

LILLY KNOWS YOU LIKE THE BACK OF HER HAND, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LIKED TO DENY IT. So to say when she glances down the crowded hall of public high school she was left gaping. There you were, leaning against an unused tan locker.... in a milkmaids dress.

A goddamn dress was clinging to your body. Lilly kept on gaping like a fish out of water, shock rattling her bones while she took in the ugly shade of pink of the fabric. It was so... girly and innocent that even Lilly saw Lenora's face shrivel up in distaste. Your hair was down in its natural state, your skin actually gleaming in the horrible yellow tinted lighting of the halls. But it wasn't gleaming in a beautiful and glamorous way, more like a sick child kind of way. Laced on your feet were your go-to brown boots which somehow went with the look.

You looked utterly horrible and yet Arvin didn't blink out of knowing your state. No, he stood there at your side, smiling and laughing along with you as if you were your merry self. Lilly felt anger boiling her blood, rising in her core that she was sure her skin was steaming.

"What you starin' at pretty lady," Gene's obnoxious voice brought Lilly's attention away from your sleepy, but smiling, face. Lilly scowls at the boy's towering bod.

They had broken up, more so Lilly had broken up with him after the whole Lenora incident. She may not know Lenora and think she was a prude who had her head in the clouds, but she didn't take kind to men beating up girls who can't defend themselves. During these times, women have to stick together. Times where rapes, brutal murder, and marriages that left women beaten half to death went unnoticed and uncared for.

And of course behind Gene Dinwoodie was his little marching ducklings. Tommy Matson, Billy Conner, and the famous William John.

"What you want Gene, I gotta get to class."

The boy scoffs and steps closer to Lilly, making the girls shoulders rise from tensing up. "If that were the case you wouldn't be staring at pretty little Y/N Winters and her new friends. Some may think you got a little crush on her. Did I fuck you so hard that loosing me left you turning lesbian?"

Tommy and Billy snicker behind Gene and the noise left Lilly's stomach to churn in disgust. Boys like them didn't deserve the wealth they family has, or the anger issue that gave them the spots on sport teams. When she flickers her gaze to William, he was too busy staring blankly at you to listen in. He may have gone pshyco after you left but he was the only one in the group who actually saw girls as equals.

Looks like you did rub off on him in the long run.

"Leave me alone Gene, I have a life to live without your small thumb like dick between my legs." Lilly didn't stand around to hear their chorus of "ooohs" and was quick to shuffle over to you.
