"My frozen heart won't melt with three words with no meaning."
*warning: mentions of suicide and depression at the end*ARVIN STOOD BEHIND HIS KNEELING SISTER, THE SILENCE IN THE CEMETERY BECOMING UNBEARABLE THE LONGER HE STOOD THERE. The snow on the grey stone of Lenora's mothers gravestone was brushed off by her gloved hand, the powder ice falling to the ground with no noise. Arvin huffs, his breath clouding up his view while he bounces on his toes, trying to help warm his body up. His gloved hands were tucked tightly in his dark navy blue winter jacket pockets, a black wool hat replacing his old known worn hat. Lenora herself was bundled up in her own maroon jacket, black gloves, white hat, and white scarf. Both their noses were red and cold by the sharp wind that felt like small needles touching their skin.
"How long you want to be out here?" Arvin asks his sister, sniffling afterwards.
"Not that long, don't want to get sick and miss out of church tomorrow," Lenora replies, already opening up her bible on her lap.
"You care if I walk around?"
Lenora waves him off, "Go ahead, I'll find ya' when I'm ready to go," and so Arvin was off.
Arvin started his little journey on the outside of the graves, but unlike him, his head was tilted up at the sky and tall evergreens. This time no fluffy clouds were hiding the sun and it's warmth, the blue sky shining like a diamond God had plucked from the ground and placed it in the sky above. The suns rays weren't warm enough to melt the winter snow from the ground and trees, but it did keep Arvin a little more warm and little more at ease. The snow did show its beauty to the sun, sparkling and showing itself off as if it was a lover showing their new dress to the sun for approval and it had loved it, the sun never once melting a single inch of the snow away.
"One thing that I notice most about people is how they don't see the world and the sun as it is. Two star crossed lovers who can never touch each other without the entire planet dying," you spoke as if the real world was truly like that, two lovers who could never be together.
"So you're telling me that the sky and the earth are lovers? You sure you ain't high?" You roll your eyes at Arvin and elbow him in the side, earning a chuckle from the boy. The two of you sat in his car, the air blowing on high from the snow you still felt in your hair and face from just getting done with a snowball fight. Arvin himself still got its chilly fingers running through his hair, wetting his curls.
"I'm not high, I just... see the world with different eyes."
"Yeah, like how? You sayin' you got them special marbles in your head that lets you?" Arvin jokes around, taking a drag from the cigarette between his pointer and middle finger. The familiar burn of the smoke going down his throat was comforting to the boy, like a small taste of pain to remind you that your alive.
