I followed closely behind the black hooded figure. She led me down the winding trail that brought us to hogsmeade. Her robes flowed behind her as the snow crunched under feet. We entered a dark alleyway, where Mart finally lifted her head, and held out a hand for me to take. The cold metal of a ring brushed across my skin as I took her hand. She turned on her ankle, and we apperated out of the small wizarding village. We gently set down on a patch of grass. Surrounding us was a peaceful forest, in front of a small log cabin.
“Welcome,.” Mart smiled kindly.
“This where Aj has been living?” Mary asked her.
“Yes, it is. It’s quite cozy, actually. It has a kitchen, a guest bedroom, master, family room and bathroom.” Mart explained, pointing to each window at the front.
She walked up the stairs that led to the door, and slowly opened into a decent sized family room. It consisted of a couch and a loveseat. A coffee table, which was scattered with open books, papers and Amethyst’s wand. And underneath lay a soft brown rug. There was also a lit fireplace on the wall, making the room rather warm. You could see the kitchen through a window on a wall, and on another wall, were three doors, which Mary assumed led to rooms and the bathroom.
“Amethyst! What is this mess?!” Mart called looking at and picking up the papers.
“I’m sorry! I was just finishing up some last minute work!” A familiar voice called back.
“I told you you could finish it later!” Mart reminded her.
“Okay! I’ll pick it up-” Amethyst exited the door on the far left, brushing off her jeans, and stopped when she looked up.
A small smile crept across her face. My heart leapt with joy at the sight of my sister.
“Amethyst!” I cried, running up to her.
I wrapped her in a warm embrace, tackling her to the ground. She wrapped her arms around me, my eyes filling with tears of joy. She let out a sigh of relief, letting go of me and patting my shoulders.
“How long has it been?” She whispered, looking into my eyes.
“Over a year.” I answered, looking at the ground.
“I’m so sorry. I wish-”
“Aj, it’s fine. You’ve already apologized. One time is enough.”
She smiled, and stood up, helping me up as well.
“Finally. You've been reunited. Now stop burdening yourself, Amethyst.” Mart smiled at us. “Why don’t you have a seat, Mary. Would you like anything to drink?”
“What do you have?” I asked her, walking over towards her.
“Well, we have tea, butterbeer, pumpkin juice and water.”
Amethyst walked over to the coffee table and began collecting the papers. She balanced her wand in between her ear, and placed her books onto the bookshelf.
“Can I have some butterbeer? If it’s all right...” I asked shyly.
“I wouldn’t have offered it if you couldn’t have it.” Mart said.
Mart brought all of us bottles of butterbeer, Amethyst finished picking up her books, and we all sat down. Amethyst and Mart sat together on the loveseat.
“So, tell us, anything interesting happening?” Amethyst asked, looking at me.
“Not really. Slughorn, our parents potions teacher, came back. Snape is now the DADA professor. And, trust me when i tell you, he takes it very seriously. It’s really harsh. I can’t imagine what next year will be like.” I explained, looking at the both of him.
“I can only imagine. Snape originally asked to be the DADA professor. He was pretty upset when Lupin got the job.” Mart looked around.
“What about you guys? What’s going on with you?” I asked, curious what had happened in the past year.
“Well, let’s see. We got engaged last summer.” Amethyst smiled widely.
“Really! Congratulations!” I cheered. I smiled, and looked at the two of them
“Thank you.” Mart smiled, “What else?”
“I joined the order of the phoenix.” Amethyst smiled.
Fear struck my heart at the mention of the order. My stomach turned, but I pushed the thought away. Joining the order had been Amethyst’s main goal since her 7th year. I calmed myself, and smiled at her, trying to look happy for her.
“That’s amazing!” I clapped my hands slightly.
We continued to talk for a while. But eventually, we ended our conversation, enjoying our company.
