SHADOW

SOMEWHERE IN THE STREETS OF D.C.

I stood in the middle of the road staring at the damaged bullet-ridden SUV being driven by Director Nick Fury. Winter Soldier brought up his gun and pulled the trigger. A metal disk shot out of it attaching to the under-chassis of the vehicle. Seconds later, the SUV exploded and was sent flying through the air, smoking. Winter Soldier and I stepped to the side as the vehicle went passed us, skidding across the street on its roof. I walked over to the over-turned SUV, pulling out two modified M1911's. I saw Fury staring at the two of us. We reached the vehicle before Barnes grabbed the crumpled metal door and threw it away across the street. He peered inside the vehicle before standing up and looking at me. I tilted my head before he shook his own a group of HYDRA men hurried over before standing beside me still as statues, a couple were wounded and bleeding. "Ma'am, these men need medical attention." One voiced. I raised my left arm and fired the gun into his head. The man fell to the ground before I turned to the others. "I don't care what these men need. Their need does not out-weigh my mission." I stated before firing the dual guns into each of the wounded men's chests. I turned to Winter Soldier in silence. "Let's go. He's on the move. I want him dead tonight." I stated before entering a HYDRA vehicle with him.

NIGHT

I stood atop of a rooftop beside Barnes. He sat prone on the building looking through the sniper scope. "I don't remember giving you a key." I heard a man say. "You really think I'd need one?" Fury countered. "My wife kicked me out." He added. Barnes looked up at me a bit confused. I shook my head acknowledging the secret communication Fury was currently using. Fury knew he was being watched.

Barnes turned back to the scope of the rifle and peered through. "I didn't know you were married." The man stated. "A lot of things you don't know about me." Fury sounded. "I know, Nick. That's the problem." The man said coming into view of the window as a light came on. I uncrossed my arms widening my eyes as I looked at the man. He looked familiar. I couldn't place his name. It's almost as if I knew who he was...but I didn't. As far as I'm concerned, I've never seen this man before in my life. The lights turned off after I noticed the man's face contort into that of concern towards Fury. The lights turned back off seconds later.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash." Fury sounded. "Who else knows about your wife?" The strange man asked. Fury got to his feet. "Just...My friends." Fury answered. "Is that what we are?" The man questioned. "That's up to you." Fury voiced before I knelt down and motioned for Barnes to fire. He pulled the trigger and I watched Fury go down to the floor. Barnes fired three more times.

"Don't...trust...anyone." I heard Fury say. "Captain Rogers. Captain, I'm Agent 13 of S.H.I.E.L.D. Special Service." A woman voiced. "Kate?" He asked. Rogers? Captain? I briefly furrowed my brows. "Tell him I'm in pursuit." I heard the man say. Barnes grabbed my arm and pushed me forward before he broke into a run. I looked at the man to see him looking up at me. The man broke into a run breaking through the window before I ran off.

I ran faster and faster catching up with the second super soldier ahead of me. Barnes jumped off the roof before I followed suit. I rolled to my feet landing on a building below. I resumed running before I heard glass shatter behind me. I stopped at the edge of the building where Barnes had previously just jumped. I skidded to a halt before turning around and catching the metal shield with my left hand. The man looked at me astonished, his brows furrowed before I reeled back my metal arm and threw the shield back at the man. He caught the shield with his hands but the force of the throw sent the man skidding back on the rooftop. I dropped off the building and hid. I looked back at the building to see the man standing at the edge searching for me. I slipped into the shadows and disappeared.
