"Y/N, HELP IS HERE! STOP!" I lift Y/N off of Yachi as the EMTs lift her into the ambulance and everyone watches it as it rushes off to the closest hospital.

I'm about to yell at Y/N that she needs to calm down when I see her crestfallen expression. There's no way I could reprimand her in that state. It'd feel like kicking a newborn puppy. Suddenly she tugs away from me and books it toward the behind of the gym, almost tripping over herself.

Oh boy, she's gonna hurl real hard, I think to myself. I grab a water bottle from one of the nearby tables and follow her. My prediction is confirmed when I see Y/N bent at the waist near one of the large bushes. Quickly before she can make a mess on herself, I gently gather her hair in my fist and hold it at the nape of her neck. It's just as soft as I had always imagined it would be...

And here she is, sleeping in my arms as I continue to comb through her hair. That same hair that had caught my attention that first day of school. I had approached Y/N to flirt with her and ask her out, which usually worked like a charm with the other girls. But she was completely guarded and seemed to see right through it. In a moment of panic, I had asked her to be our manager half expecting her to say no. She had surprised me when she agreed.

Now, I had brought her to a separate room from the managers, thinking she'd want space to be alone for a while. I was just going to drop her off and let her rest but.. I wanted to stay with her a little longer. Y,know, just out of concern to make sure she didn't wake up and freak out. Because I'm her friend.

Friend. I chuckle humorlessly. How could she not know or even suspect that the girl I've been pining after was none other than her?

"Mmmhnng.." she whimpers. "Please, Kotaro.."

My hand stops mid-comb and I lower it. I take in a breath, and sigh. Right. There's only one person that's completely taken over her heart and her thoughts, and she doesn't know how to acknowledge it. I've seen the way she looks at him, like he's the only person in the room.

I gently set her onto the futon I spread out earlier and tuck her in.

"I know your feelings so much more than you know them yourself. This is one thing I can confidently say I'm better at you than: reading emotions. I guess I'll just have to save you the inconvenience of telling you my feelings, PinkU-san," I whisper. I stroke her cheek and glide my thumb along her soft skin one more time before I get up. Closing the door behind me, I move towards the exit when I see Bokuto standing in front of me. For a second, I contemplate telling him to piss off. But what would that do? Y/N would sulk for weeks, and seeing her not be herself is that last thing I want to see.

"Y/N's gonna kill me when she finds out I told you this..." I say, and proceed to tell him about her ex.

When I'm done talking and basically tell Bokuto to keep pursuing her, I slap his back as encouragement and offer a smile. But when he disappears inside, my smile drops. The bastard best not break her heart. Or I'll really will not hold back. I'll take her for myself.

A buzz sounds from my phone and I check it. Daichi sent in the Captains group chat that Yachi was going to be okay. She hasn't woken since getting water pumped from her lungs, but her vitals are stable and she's currently being monitored. Thank God.

Y/N will be able to wake up to good news, I think to myself. Sighing, I turn to head out of the building. Time to call Coach Nekomata.
