Morning comes faster than I expected, and Nekoma was ready in their jerseys for the Commencement Ceremony representing the Metropolitan Tokyo prefecture. The gym was super close so we got there in no time and all the teams from the prefectures of all of Japan were gathered in one place. Maybe it was because it was early but I felt a dull ache at the front of my forehead, but it wasn't unbearable so earlier I popped a painkiller and continued on.
In the crowd, I spotted a particularly orange head of hair and black jerseys among the crowd. Karasuno! That means-
"Yachi! Shimizu!" I call out. The Karasuno managers turned around and after seeing me, smiled and waved. "oh my god, it's so nice to see you both! Yachi, how are your ribs doing?"
"They're good! Slowly but surely healing," she replies.
"Oh, good I'm glad!" you say, genuinely. "Isn't this so exciting?? I can't believe we were all able to make it here!"
Shimizu giggles. "You're right. And our team is really ecstatic, they couldn't stop talking about coming to Tokyo and meeting up with your team again."
She had turned to Karasuno and I traced her eyes to a particular bald dude.. what was his name again? Tanaka?
At the moment he was talking to a girl from Niiyama and Shimizu's face fell a little and she turned back around. Oh? Is there something going on there? Catching my quizzical look, she turns away and blushes.
"Shimizu, I didn't know you had feelings for a certain someone?" I say quietly. Yachi looked super surprised at my comment and I instantly regretted saying anything. "Wait, holy crap. Sorry I didn't know this was unknown information!"
Shimizu shakes her head and says, "No, no it's okay. I don't think anyone knows because I wasn't able to admit it to myself until recently."
Before I ask her more, I see Bokuto and Akaashi going through the crowd towards us.
"Ok, we better meet up so you can tell me all the tea!" I tell her. I wave and meet Bokuto halfway.
"Kotaro! Akaashi! Glad to see you looking so alive," I say, grinning.
"Good to see you too, Y/N-san," Akaashi replies, polite as always.
Bokuto picks me up in a bear hug and spins me around.
"Whoa there, tiger. Long time no see," I laugh. "Akaashi, did he tell you how I thought he was a murderer following me down a dark alley last night?"
"No, actually, I wasn't aware of this," he replied, frowning.
"It wasn't intentional I swear! I was trying to surprise her!" Bokuto exclaims.
The speakers suddenly turn on and instruct the players to line up in their respective teams by prefecture in alphabetical order.
"Hey hey hey, it's time!! That's our cue, Akaashi, let's go!" he says. Then to me he says, "I'll see you soon, yeah?"
"Mmmhmm," I reply. He gives me a quick kiss and the Fukurodani boys walk back to the rest of their team and I turn to go towards mine. Day 1 of Nationals is about to begin!
To say that we struggled against Sarukawa Tech would be an understatement. They tried their hardest to make Kenma move around as much as possible to tire him out, which is not a good thing for our team.
"Can we try to somehow win without me getting freaking wrecked?" Kenma told the team in a time-out. I've never seen him so irritated before.
But the team just laughs and Tora says, "Do you even need to ask?"
