La douleur exquise: (n.) the heart wrenching pain of wanting the affection of someone unattainable

--

"Y-Yuu?" Asahi spoke in a quiet tone as he heard Noyas last words. "You stay awake, do you hear me?! Don't you dare close your eyes! Please! Come on. Please, please, wake up. I can't do this without you."

'This can't be happening.' Asahi thought to himself.

He slightly shook the small boy, desperately trying to wake him. After no answer, he shook him again. Once again, no answer. Asahi pulled him in a tight hug, crying even harder. He held his lovers dead corpse close in his arms. A few moments later of silence, Asahi pulled the body and leaned him against the wall. Giving Noya one last kiss and goodbye, Asahi went back to the others.

Silently walking down the steps, the others came up to Asahi.

"Hey Asahi! Whats wrong? Where's Noya?" Hinata was the first time talk.

"He's...dead." Asahi whispered not looking up.

"What? What happened?!" Tanaka pushed his way through Hinata to stand before Asahi.

"He had gotten bitten. Then he sta-" Asahi couldn't finish the sentence without bursting into tears.

He wrapped his arms around himself. Dropping to his knees and crying, covering his mouth with one hand to try and contain his sobs.

"I'm sorry! I could've saved him. Its all my fault. I'm sorry..." Asahi managed to let out through gasps.

The others gasped in shock, all of them starting to tear up.

"Asahi... Its not your fault. If he was bitten, there was probably nothing you could do." Ennoshita pointed out, rubbing Asahi's back. "You took great care of him, and I'm sure he wouldn't want you to worry about it."

Asahi couldn't muster anything out. He cried into his hands, while his friends around comforted him. They were crying too, grieving the unexpected loss of their dear friend. Sobs could be heard throughout the room, all in disbelief.

Outside, there was a low rumble, the sound of a big vehicle. Then there were shots fired. The sound was getting closer and closer until Hinata went to go check out what was making it. Looking out the window, Hinata's eyes widened when he saw a large tank outside making its way towards the group, people that looked like soldiers walked along side the tank, shooting at the zombies.

"Uhh guys? There's a tank out there, I think we should go and catch it." Hinata said while he wiped his nose with his arm.

Some of the others stood up and went to the window to see if Hinata was lying, and surely enough, he wasn't. It was getting closer to the building they were in.

"Hey...yeah. Maybe they can take us to the safe zone." Tanaka suggested.

The group stood up and started making their way down the steps, leaving Asahi as he still sat on the floor. He had stopped crying, but he was staring into the nothingness in defeat. Tanaka noticed this and went
to Asahi and held out his hand, a forced but sweet smile plastered on his face. A couple tears fall from his bloodshot eyes.

Asahi slowly lifted his gaze to Tanaka, tears shining in his eyes. Asahi lifted his hand and reached for Tanaka. Grabbing each others hand, Tanaka pulled Asahi up. Asahi's face was still frozen, but Tanaka can see a sympathetic glint in his eyes. From there, they walked down together with the others.

"HEY! OVER HERE!" The group of friends tried to gain the attention of the soldiers.

Waving their hands and jumping around, the soldiers finally saw the group. Pulling the tank to a halt, the soldiers ran towards them and rushed them to the tank.
