Evangeline was bringing the kids into the park. She just couldn't say no to them. It was Sunday and the kids wanted to just stroll around after they had attended the mass. Since the park was just a walking distance from the church, Evangeline accepted their favor and the four of them went happily to the park. On their way there, Ernestine who was the natural observer observed something which she felt differently. Evangeline even felt the sudden change of the wind. It became different that she knew something was wrong.
"Mama, Why are the people here so fat? And look at those fat kids on the garbage. Are they eating it?" She said. Pointing the obese children.
Evangeline saw what Ernestine was talking about. It was only in this block that the people seemed unusual. They were all very fat and all of them were carrying food and were continuously eating like pigs. It was a disturbing view for her and the children.
"Kids, I want you to stay close to me," Evangeline said. She carried Evander in one hand. Held Ernestine on the other hand and told Emery to hold her hand that carried the little boy. A sudden mist began to form and slowly swallowed the people in it.
Evangeline's grip turned much tighter. She was not scared, of course, she was just being cautious because Gula was a monstrous pig that eats everything along her path. Gula was always hungry, she does not settle with the souls alone but she also eats the flesh of her victims. She was a very fat woman. Having olive skin and very long brown frizzled hair. Her skin was very oily and greasy. She lured her victims who were like her with the scent and aroma of delicious foods. A scent only gluttonous people could smell.
"What is this Mama? This white smoke?" Emery said. She kept on waving her free hand to have a better view ahead. Thinking that the mist would disperse by waving her hand into it.
"Maybe one of the stalls ahead is having barbeque as one of their menus," Evangeline said. Giving her eldest daughter her sweet smile.
"I want a barbeque, Mama!" Evan exclaimed, raising one hand.
"I don't like barbeques. They're hard to chew." Ernestine said. Being thoughtful.
Evangeline gave a little giggle. She loves it when her kids share their ideas.
When the mist became really thick for them to see clearly, Evangeline took a deep breath and slowly released the air making the mist parted and giving them a clear vision ahead. Evander saw what her mother did and tried to imitate her. Evangeline giggled again at her son's innocent mimicry.
"I'm hungry..." A woman's voice from behind said.
Emery turned her head and saw this gruesome huge woman reaching her hands on them like she was gonna grab them. Emery let out a scared cry and embraced her mother. Evangeline saw this and in an instinct, her hand that held Ernestine wrapped around Emery bringing Ernestine along. Ernestine gave a yelp of a surprise but later on managed it as she bumped into her eldest sister. Evangeline shielded her kids with her body and the woman got a hold of her instead of Emery. In an instant, Evangeline put Evan down next to her sisters. The hungry woman got a hold on Evangeline's back, but before she was taken away, she told her kids to stick together and stay where they were because she's coming back to them. The woman and Evangeline were swallowed by the blinding sight of the mist, concealing them away from her children's sight. Evangeline heard their scared cry and the shushing of Emery to calm them.
Evangeline twisted her body by the woman's gripped and held her face. In an instant, the woman fell on the ground unconscious. She blew hard to chase the mist away. Right there in the middle of the road her children stayed and held each other tight. It was a sight that gives pain in her heart. It was the very example of why she wanted to eliminate the evils that walked the earth.
