Evangeline slowly took off her hospital gown. She was discharged the next day she woke up from her coma. The kids watched her with excitement in their eyes. Evangeline could see how being in the hospital took its toll on the children, but still having the energy to smile at her every minute, giving her more strength, hope, and faith in humanity. She always knew that children have the purest soul that needs to be guided and nurtured properly. Show them love and they will love you back. Show them your confidence and they will trust you back, and so on with all the good values, every adult must show them. Children are the most fragile thing that needs extra, extra care. Evangeline smiles at her children.
"Where do you want to go before we head home?" Evangeline asked. She saw how the children's eyes opened wide in excitement.
"Can we go to a Park?" Ernestine said earnestly. She even clapped her hands together and wet her lips in excitement. Evangeline remembered that it was a long time ago since they all went to a Park. It was when she and Oscar were still together. A memory that no longer sting.
"We have to eat first before going to the park, right Mama?" Emery said. Her eyes too showed an excitement. Always the person-in-charge when it comes to her siblings.
"Of course," Evangeline said with a sweet smile. She looked down at her son. "Where do you want to eat, Evan?"
"McDonald's!" Evan exclaimed and even hopped and threw his hands in the air.
"Fine, McDonald's it is.."
"Yes!" The children said in unison. They even gave each other a high five. They exude joy and excitement to the idea that they would be eating at McDonald's, a place they've just dreamt of going before.
"Do we still have money for that, Eve?" Veronica asked her. There was a concerned tone in her voice. She even held her in one arm. And she was worried about her daughter's health since she just recovered from an illness. It may be a miracle but she was no superhuman that doesn't need resting.
"Yes Mama, Don't worry. Starting today, no more shortages in money." Evangeline answered and tapped her mother's hand on her arm.
Veronica felt at peace looking at her daughter's now blue eyes. But Evangeline still saw the slightly confused look on her mother's face. But she just smiled and Veronica nodded, showing her silent agreement.
Veronica watched her daughter intently. By the look of it, this new Evangeline was different from the old one. The Evangeline now was someone who was more confident and did not show doubtfulness and always sure of herself. She even has that intent look to everyone and a smile so enigmatic that she couldn't fathom. It was like she was a riddle with no answer. She knew how Evangeline worked hard just to have a living, especially with kids to provide for their needs. She didn't know where Evangeline took the money from or borrowed it from. Though she knew that she had received a sum from her retirement, but that won't be enough with the hospital bills. Veronica shook her head to dismiss the thought. Instead of being doubtful, she must be glad that her daughter has survived her illness. And she had thanked God for the miracle of curing her daughter.
"Hush now Mama, rest a sure that I'm still the old Eve," Evangeline said and kissed her on the cheek and gave her mother a haste hug.
"Oh good, Lord!" That was what Veronica said on her mind. She was shocked about how Evangeline had known what she was thinking about. Now, this new Evangeline does have weird traits! As weird as with her blue eyes! What happened to her eyes anyway? She thought. Even Dr. Diaz didn't seem to have the answer for her eyes who changed their colors the moment she woke up from that coma.
"Ma...You know how much I love you and I know how much you love me. I have been through so much pain in life and you were always there for me. Please, I beg of you. Just trust me on this, okay?" Evangeline said. Still hearing her mother's thoughts.
