第5章

Once the man saw me he ran off, it was rather rude but oh well. It isn't my problem where he's going.

After a few seconds I look around the town and see a ramen stand, I decided to put my sword back in its sheathe and walk to the stand. I order what I would like and then sit down on a tree trunk that is conveniently placed in front of the stand.

The owner of the stand hands me my bowl of ramen and I pay him, tipping a decent amount since this doesn't look like the wealthiest town. I mean, I'm not the wealthiest person but what I have is more than enough for me. I started to eat the ramen, taking Rio out of the satchel and letting him roam free close by.

The stand owner looks like he wants to say something but quickly decides against it, probably because of the big tip. Whatever.

This ramens pretty good I must say, definitely coming back here.

I don't know if they think I'm stupid or something.

I could feel them follow me from the beginning, but they haven't attacked me so I felt no need to confront them. Why are they following me though? Is this why I was given such a weak mission, and an extremely early one if Ayames situation was anything to go by.

I'm going to give them a piece of my mind, I decide, as I finish my ramen and quickly head in the direction the person I sense to be hiding is at.

I walk towards a bush near the forest entrance and grab the girl's haori, earning a quiet squeak. I pull her up from her hiding spot, '' What do you want Mitsuri? Why have you been following me all this time? '' I spoke out towards her, clearly annoyed. Do they not trust me or something?

Ridiculous..

She was clearly nervous after being found out.

'' Oh erm, haha... I was told to try and convince you to say yes again, then I noticed you seemed like you were on a mission so I follow behind.. '' She answered, to this, I just sighed.

"That was a big waste of time on your part. I will not, nor will I ever, say yes. Plus you could've been out fighting demons instead of tailing me like a schoolgirl with a crush."

Her face was red. Likely in shame."Oh uhm, er- I-"

She pouted and slumped down in defeat.

I realized her mood went down fairly quickly and felt a bit of guilt within me. I hesitantly pulled out a short hairpin I had bought earlier today while passing by a shop. It was a short, silver pin with a white orb at the top, with a rose ornament above and below the white orb. I kind of just awkwardly stuck it into one of her braids doesn't look the best right now but she can fix it later if she decides to even wear it.

She looked up at me, with confusion. She took the pin out of her braid and looked at it, when she realized I meant for it to be a gift she got up and hugged me with a smile. When she hugged me I stilled, getting very uncomfortable. I hugged back for a second then awkwardly pushed her off.

'' Thank you! '' she spoke, '' Does this mean its a ye- ''

'' My answer is still no, you looked sad and I tried to help. ''

"Oh." Back to the pitiful mood she goes, it's honestly a lost cause at this point.

I sigh, looking at Rio who has been following me this entire time, since it's dark and not many people are out who might cause him to get lost.

"See ya Mitsuri." I wave as I turn around, glad to know that she wasn't following me this time.Like always, my mind wanders off on its own, leading me to arrive at my house and never realizing it until I'm on my front lawn.

I head inside, going to change into one of my favorite sleeping attire, a dark blue striped kimono, along with a white obi, and give Rio his dinner before heading off to bed.

I woke up to banging, and I mean banging on my door. I get up, still in my sleep attire, and slide the door to see who it is.

I slide the door back closed once I see Uzui Tengen and Obanai Iguro, it is way too early for this. Unfortunately, Uzui grabbed the door and opened it fully again before I could close it, I groaned wondering what it is they wanted this time.

'' We all have a mission together, so get ready, and let's go. '' Iguro said. I just wiped my eyes with my hand and sighed.

I muttered something like an ' okay ' before forcefully shutting the door closed.

I go to my room and get into my uniform, along with putting my belt on and getting my sword in the sheathe. I grabbed the satchel and put Rio into it because I am afraid of leaving him behind. I make sure I have all my cures and my water gourd before finally stepping out of my house, where I am greeted by the faces of 2 people I dislike at the moment.

'' Where exactly is our mission? '' I asked, putting the satchel over my shoulder and beginning to walk ahead of them.

'' It's in Tokyo, apparently, in the city, a bunch of people has been going missing in a certain area and they believed 2 hashira are needed due to a bunch of demon slayers not returning.'' Iguro spoke out, '' By the way, are you really planning on carrying that bag everywhere? What even is in it? '' He questioned.

I tightened my grip on the bag, '' My pet fox is in the bag, He helps me in battle sometimes and likes to come along anyway. '' to this he just hummed

Rio giving a small yip to prove my point. God, I love him.

We begin our trek to Tokyo, and a thought eventually comes to my head. "Hey, you said you needed 2 hashiras, so why the hell am I tagging along? My own crow didn't wake me so I'm beginning to doubt this was ever really my mission to begin with." I spoke.

They looked at each other and sighed. "Damn you and your keen eye. We asked you to go along with us in hopes of convincing you to join us. That's why this mission difficulty is so much more different than your previous one since you've already proven yourself time and time again."

I deadpan at them, "well that was a horrible idea considering it's not going to ever work."

'' Do you still want to tag along on this mission? '' Iguro spoke, '' To be honest, I don't think you can handle this difficultly of a mission. '' He finished, looking at his partner who shot an agreeing glance towards him. And I saw it all, and I am VERY offended right now.

Is this man using reverse psychology with me? Tch, whatever, challenged accepted assholes.

'' You really think I am gonna back out just because this is a Hashira ranked mission? '' I said, shooting a death glare their way. To this they winked at each other, proving my suspicion, not gonna make me back down though.

Due to being very annoyed right now, I pick up my pace, eventually jumping high into a tree, hopping branches to get there faster and I'll just meet them there. They quickly caught up and followed my movements though, not really surprising since they're meant to be the best of the best.

"At least you can move pretty fast, now we know you won't slow us down," Uzui said.I scoffed in annoyance. Damn, do these people know how to get under my nerves. We eventually reach the beautiful city of Tokyo,

"Well boys, how do you want to proceed with this incredibly difficult mission you doubted bringing me on" I inquired.

As if they didn't hear me, they jumped off in separate directions, leaving me speechless.Seriously? What jerks.

I sigh and think of who to follow.

I smirked and decided to go off in a separate direction too. When I am approaching a shady side of the city, my jaw drops as I remember something, THOSE JERKS NEVER EVEN TOLD ME WHERE EXACTLY THE MISSION WAS.

I huff as I jump from a tree onto a tall as hell building, just nearly making the jump and looking around for my ' teammates '. I tsk as I hesitate to even call them that. What type of teammates even are they to give me limited details and just leave me without saying a word. I continued to look above the city since I have a good view of the whole city from here.

I sit in silence for quite a while, and eventually, through the corner of my eye, I notice a shadow quickly pass by. My head snapping to the side, but it moves too fast for me to see what it was.My eye twitches in annoyance, though they both widen in panic when someone chuckles behind me.

'How did they get behind me without me noticing?' I wonder, and slowly turn my body in anticipation.

Something quickly gets in my face, or should I say someone as I notice it was actually my so-called teammate who scared me, off the roof might I mention. As I'm falling I let out a short scream of terror while I fall, closing my eyes as I hear laughing behind me before one of them abruptly stops and I feel arms wrap around me when I sense myself getting too close to the ground.

I open my eyes and am met face to face by a snake, which scared the hell out of me so I literally jumped out of the grasp of Iguro.

'' You okay? '' He asked in a monotone voice, '' My teammate here is annoying sometimes. '' He finished.

I was about to answer before I realized something, RIO! MY SATCHEL IS EMPTY!

I frantically look around, before I look up to a shocking scene.

I see Uzui holding Rio, who looks terrified at the scene of his mother falling off a building. I am grateful but also slightly angered by this, so in a swift movement, I jump up the building, somehow not falling once more, and grab Rio from his arms.

He at least has the decency to look a little bit sheepish."Aww don't worry Rio I'm okay, see?" I quickly begin to comfort Rio paying no mind to those next to me.

I hear someone awkwardly cough, raising my head to see both of them in the frontline of me."...Sorry." Uzui said while not meeting my eyes.

I sigh in exasperation, still angry from before. "Let's just do this stupid mission and go on our merry way." I decided

They silently agree, already jumping to our original arrival spot
.Once we all got back on top of the building, they sat on the edge but I sat farther away. Nope, I am not falling off a building again. I cough, getting their attention as I start to speak.

'' So can I get more intel on the mission? '' I asked glaring at them, they looked at me stupidly until remembering.

'' Oh yeah, we haven't told you much have we. '' Uzui spoke out.

Iguro coughed, '' Because you were too busy trying to scare the shit out of her, let me remind you nearly killing her. ''

Uzui was about to reply until I spoke out loud,

'' You seem to have forgotten I wouldn't have been able to die from that fall.. '' I spoke out towards Iguro.

Iguro suddenly had a look of realization on his face as he seemed to remember I was part demon.

It went silent..

I broke the silence.

'' So can I have more details or no? '' I asked

'' Oh yeah, my bad '' Uzui said.

"Well then, " he begins

"Our mission...




God was that a long explanation, I think I zoned out after the first 5 words.

I look around and it's already sunset, apparently, there is a fairly strong demon there but they don't believe it could be one of the Twelve Kizuki though. I eventually made my way to the edge, admiring the sunset.

Once it wasn't that amazing view anymore, I made sure Rio was concealed then I jumped down off the building, landing on the floor perfectly. With the two following right behind, probably thinking I had a death wish.

'' I thought you couldn't do that earlier? '' Iguro asked.

'' I can do it, I just couldn't since I wasn't prepared to be practically forced off a building.. '' I answered.

Just a simple "oh." in a guilty voice told me of their thoughts. Haha.

"C'mon, let's go." We head off in a random direction, hoping to find clues about anything.I hear the occasional hiss but I assume it's the wind.

Though as the hisses persist, I begin to think it may not be the wind, especially after hearing a clammed on the right of me. I jump back and take out my sword, getting ready to leap at whatever was revealing itself.

And reveal itself it did, a disgusting goop or slime, what I'm not sure, it was a dark murky green and eventually started grouping together, becoming a pale tall man with slit brown eyes and dark green hair.

The demon's face was flushed and staring especially hard at me with a grin. Oh god, a pervert. Honestly don't think I even want to use the cure on this guy.

The demon smirked, '' I hope you're prepared Darlin'. '' The demon put his hand out towards me and a clump of the slime shot off of his hand and fell onto my arm, but something was off...

..


The slime started to burn the skin on where it touched, like a sort of acid, eventually showing a bit of bone.. Iguro & Uzui looked at me, a look of horror in their eyes. At least in my case, It hurt, but it didn't hurt as much due to my faster regenerative abilities. I used my blood demon art to make my senses forget the pain my body is in.

'' You guys, make sure to be careful. '' I began, '' I can make myself forget the pain but it will probably hurt a lot for you guys. ''

Iguro tsked as if I was joking, and Uzui just rolled his eyes. I'll just ignore them, if they get hurt it's not my fault anymore.

The demon then turned back into the slimy goo puddle, making its way towards me. The demon hardens a portion of the goo into arms and attempted to grab my ankles, I was fast enough to cut the arms off with my sword.

The demon backed their puddle up once more, forming into their body again. '' You're a quick one, aren't you? '' The demon spoke out, a huge blush covering their face.. Jesus, I am NOT using the cure on this perverted demon.

What the hell are Iguro and Uzui doing? Just standing there and watching? Gah, I don't care I don't have the patience for this anymore.

Using my fifth form I make him think he's in immense pain. Or well. That's what should've happened. He just. Stood there. Like nothing happened? What's going on? I halt immediately, staring at him. He stares back. Is... is he just desensitized? Like is his acid goo burning him, so much to the point he became desensitized? Oh my god, that's awful... but alas, I made a promise. And this pervert is still going back to the hell he escaped.

Iguro and Uzui seem to have finally decided to move, questioning me about what just happened.

Iguro tried to grab my arm, but I swiped it away from his grasp within seconds. He seemed confused but just spoke out, '' What happening? ''

I tsked, '' Figure it out yourselves. '' I said.

I went up to the demon, while in its solidified form, taking the opportunity to slice the head off.

After the demon started turning to dust, he seemed to come back to his senses and looked confused as hell. He looked for anything he could do to cause some last damage and so he did...

..

He spat his goo onto Uzui and Iguro, soon after doing so, he disintegrates.

I was looking at him, just staring, before being snapped out of my daze by a scream. '' GAH! FUCK! ''

I snapped my head backward, to see a part of Uzui's face burning, and Iguro's left leg having been burnt.

I tsk before going to their aid, pulling out one of my water gourds before pouring half of it over each of their burns until the water ran out, eventually grabbing bandages from my belt and bandaging their burned skin.

I know you're supposed to put some ointment or something on these types of burns, but I don't have any on me. It's not my fault, either way, I told their asses to be careful but they lost their focus.

"...thanks." They said, not meeting my eyes. Likely in shame for not believing me haha."You know.." Iguro begins,

"You were pretty good out there."

I smiled, "thank you." Glad to have my efforts recognized.

"You'd be even better if you join our ranks as a hashira." Uzui just had to chime in.

My smile immediately turned into a frown and a cold stare. " No. " I stated.
"Why not? I mean you are practically qualified for it. Plus you'd have a lot more say to other lower-ranking demon slayers as of now."

"My answer is still, and always will be, no." And that was that.

I wrapped and tied the bandage particularly hard at that statement. Seeing Iguro visibly flinch, I cringe as I began to unwrap it and be more gentle with the bandaging. Eventually moving to replace Uzui's bandages, I'm wondering to myself why I am even caring about these idiots...

I gently pat the bandage on his cheek, signaling my finish. As we all stand up, I notice Iguro having a bit of trouble standing and question what to do. Quickly deciding as he nearly falls due to the serious burn on his leg.

I quickly scoop Iguro up in my arms, with much protest from him, but began our run back to the butterfly estate. With him being very against it, trying to squirm out of my grasp.

I eventually come to a halt and snap, '' Fine? you want to walk on your own, so be it. '' I say as I drop him onto the ground, Uzui being quick to stop him from falling.

I roll my eyes and tsk as I just hop into the trees and disappear, wondering why I even BOTHER to try and help.

Meanwhile with Uzui and Iguro POV

"Well then.. that was eventful." The man said, trying to stand on his own.

The other nodded in agreement.

"Honestly, I'm surprised at how quick her mood changed." Again, more agreement.

"I don't think I've ever seen someone go from being helpful and kind to uncaring that quick-"

"-Well to be honest we were annoying about the hashira thing," Uzui admitted.

sigh "I know."

Iguro grunted when a step forward was particularly harsh with his limp.

"I should have let her carry me." He huffed.

"I'm not carrying you." Uzui said.

"Shut up."
