Juli-Chapter 54

" Bryce?"

" Yeah, what's up?"

" Could you come over?"

" Yeah,sure,babe."

" Hey, what's wrong?" Bryce walked into my room, his face apprehensive before he even attacked me with questions.
I was lying against the wall beside my bedroom, head in my hands, pondering over the recent events.
Bryce settled beside me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders.
I placed my head on his shoulders,taking comfort in his presence.
" Talk to me, Jules," He whispered as he stroked my fingers soothingly.

" Maddie wants to marry David."

There was no response from Bryce.
I lifted my head to see him stunned.
" Wow,uhhh," He laughed nervously with wide eyes.
" I was not expecting that at all."

" My parents weren't expecting that either."
I nestled back into my original position.
I then proceeded to recount what had played out in the morning.

" No kidding. I mean if Lynetta just dropped by the house with some guy and says that she is married, I wouldn't exactly be welcoming her with open arms."

" I mean it's not like Maddie and David are married," I said defensively.

" Yeah, no kidding. But she wasn't exactly asking for permission was she?" Bryce snorted as he crossed his arms across his chest.

" Well....she seemed pretty determined when she said it," I said thinking about how she appeared at dinner.

" I don't understand.Why are you so down about it?"

" I might have promised Maddie that I would convince my parents for their wedding," I blurted out while closing my eyes, fearful of Bryce's reaction.

" Jules....." Bryce groaned.
I peeked one eye open to find him pacing across the room rubbing his forehead.

" I love David. And Maddie seems like such a sweet person. They atleast deserve a chance!" I exclaimed.

" I think it's great that you love David, but why did you have to raise her hopes with a promise?"

" Because I believe in them!" I raised my voice a little higher than I should have.
I wasn't going to back down from this.

" This isn't about what or what you don't believe! This is about David and his life! God, if you could just hear yourself right now!" Bryce vociferated with such an intensity that I could see his eyes blazing with anger.

" Yes! David deserves a life other than that of in a instituition!"
I peeled myself off the ground and stood right in front of Bryce, eye to eye.

" He can't. I'm sorry. But he can't. And you know that,Jules. Be rational about this!"

" I am! Maddie says that she could provide a good life, a good deserved life for David and I believe her!"

" God, you can be so frustrating sometimes!"
He waved his arms angrily in the air.

" Does that mean you're not going to be helping in this?"
Bryce glared at me before storming out of my room.

Later in the evening......
" Hello?"

" I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that." Bryce's voice was barely audible over the phone.

I remained silent for a couple of minutes. I then stared at my ceiling and closed my eyes.
" I'm sorry too," I finally said.

" I should have respected your decision and I was completely out of line," He replied immediately as if he had planned what he wanted to say.

" My parents called me stupid over this. So did my brothers. And I just thought you were the only one who would believe in me," I muttered, wrapping the cord of the telephone around my fingers.

" Baby, I do believe in you. I do. But, this just seems like a matter that is far beyond your belief."

" I know. Trust me, I know," I sighed.
" I don't know what to do."

" We'll figure it out. I promise."

I just realized something while writing this chapter. Bryce and Juli don't have nicknames for each other. So, I just thought why can't Bryce call Juli babe or baby or Jules?
Do you think it's weird that they don't have nicknames? Do all couples of nicknames?
I don't know.
