After a wild and chaotic Takeover at Brooklyn, NXT is back to the viewing audience as they go live from Full Sail University. The fans talked about all of the highlights from the show that happened at Brooklyn from the five star match between Kairi and Tegan to the debuts of Timothy Thatcher and Karrion Kross to the hellacious ladder match for the NXT Championship.
Tonight's show features the TV debuts for Timothy Thatcher and Karrion Kross. Thatcher will go against Kona Reeves while Kross goes up against the monstrous Bronson Reed.
As for the NXT Champion and Women's Champion, they were given the night off, and that was an opportunity for them to scout any potential challengers for their respective titles.
Kenji: Kairi-san, your match with Tegan got 5 stars from that newsletter
Kairi: whoa! Really?!
Kenji: hai
Kairi: getting 5 stars from this newsletter is very difficult
Kenji: but sometimes it's bias. They mostly gave 5 stars to matches from New Japan, and other companies 4.75 stars
Kairi: I agree, but they did give 5 stars to some NXT matcher
Kenji: well mostly Johnny is a master, and they don't call him Johnny Takeover for nothing
Kairi: yeah true
Kenji: we got the night off, so let's see who may want to stake their claim to challenge for your title and my title
Kairi: who do you think may challenge you for yours, babe?
Kenji: well Karrion Kross and I kept staring down, but we did not connect punches during the ladder match, so maybe he may want a title shot. How about you?
Kairi: I want to challenge my best friend, Io-san. Our history together traces all the way back to Stardom
Kenji: oh, the Pirate Princess versus the Genius of the Sky, I would love to see that
Kairi: oh you
She giggled and kissed his cheek. Then the two relaxed as they watched the show from Kenji's locker room.
The opening match was a one on one as Timothy Thatcher, who made his successful debut at Brooklyn goes one on one against Raul Mendoza.
Fans have high hopes since all the members of Ringkampf are in NXT, they may see a reunion in the future. Ringkampf were a stable most notably in wXw and Progress Wrestling consisting of the NXT UK Champion WALTER, Marcel Barthel and Timothy Thatcher.
(Minutes later)
Thatcher made short work of Mendoza, showcasing his technical style he is known for in the European wrestling scene. He ended it by making Mendoza tap out to the Fujiwara armbar in the middle of the ring.
(Next match)
The next match for the show was a women's singles match as the Genius of the Sky Io Shirai looks to impress Kairi as she hunts for a title shot against her best friend. Io got in the ring to go up against newcomer Indi Hartwell.
(Backstage)
Kairi: Io-san looks to impress me, let's see if she is worthy
Kenji: you two will tear the house down
Kairi smiled and kissed Kenji on the cheek. Then the couple watched Io's match.
(Back in the ring)
Io showed off her speed and aerial skills, giving her opponent a hard time to catch up with her.
(Fast forward to the end of the match)
Io locked in the crossface in the middle ring on Hartwell, but Indi managed to reach for the ropes, forcing a break on the hold.
Then as Hartwell attempted for an offense shot, Io ducked and took down Hartwell with a step up enziguri. Io saw Indi in the dropzone, so she climbed up to the top turnbuckle and lands her signature Asai Moonsault for the pinfall victory.
After Io celebrated her win, she grabbed a mic and sent a message to Kairi.
Io: カイリ、気になりますか？(Kairi-san, ki ni narimasu ka?)
Io smiled and did the belt taunt, which translates to saying she wants to be Kairi's next challenger.
However, her question was answered as Kairi's entrance theme played and out came the NXT Women's Champion. Fans are getting vibes from Stardom as Kairi walked down the ramp and got in the ring to confront her next potential challenger.
The fans were chanting, "Yes!" as they want this match to happen. Kairi and Io had fought side by side and against each other back in their home promotion of Stardom, the sister Joshi puroresu company of Kenji's former employer, New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Kairi smiled and nodded as she analyzes Io, then she raises her title as the fans cheered loud.
(Later)
Kenji was invited to sit with the announcer's table at ringside to scout and watch the main event closely.
Kenji: I'm gonna go, babe
Kairi: hai, okay babe
The couple kissed each other on the lips before the NXT Champion left.
(In the ring)
The match was ongoing between the Devil and Aus-zilla while the Pinoy Samurai watched and examined closely the man he did not have any physical altercation at the ladder match in Brooklyn.
Reed connected shots, but the impact did not faze Kross. The Thicc Boi backed Kross to the corner, but the tables turned as Kross landed a kick to the face. He then lifted and threw the 300 pounder with an exploder suplex, much to the astonishment of Kenji.
Kross launched for an offense, but was caught with a forearm from Reed, then fazing Kross with a step up kick, followed by a German suplex, but the Devil got right back up, feeling no pain.
Kross: come on!
The two men traded forearms, with the pain not registering on either man. Then Kross took down Reed with another suplex.
Then Kross took down Reed with a monstrous clothesline, followed by his signature move, the Doomsday Saito.
Kross turned to the announcer's table to lock eyes on Kenji, who doesn't seem intimidated by the Devil.
As Kross took down Reed with another Doomsday Saito, Scarlett walked over to the announcer's table and placed an hourglass next to Kenji.
In the ring, after landing a third Doomsday Saito on Reed, Kross locked in his submission hold in the middle of the ring, the Kross Jacket.
Aus-zilla tried to hang on, but had no other option, but to tap out. Kross still kept the hold on Reed while he stared down at Kenji.
Kenji stood up and stared down at Kross, showing no fear, like the monster that inspired his gimmick, Godzilla.
Kross let go of the hold and then stared down at Kenji while Scarlett kept her man calm. Then the Devil verbally sent a warning.
Kross: Mr. Cruz! Your time will be up. Tick tock!
Kenji Cruz and Karrion Kross stared daggers at each other as the show came to an end with the fans seeing a great feud for the NXT Championship.
