For most of the beginning of the week I kept on noting everything the Sheriff was doing, and of course, working at the Saloon.
Whitey came in every once and a while but other than that it was hard to get a hold of him, Friedman had him running all over town in search of someone who robbed Mrs.Dunn. The main person I talked to was Louis, slowly I started to see him like less of an narcissistic toxic man, and more of a...friend? It was hard to put my finger on how I felt, he tried so hard to get into my good graces, and I could see that he lived working with me.
On Thursday morning, at 5:30 I was up and in the saloon, I had worked through the night. Usually I take the morning and afternoon and Raymond worked at night, but he was sick so I did his shift for him, it wasn't so hard because the saloon stayed empty most of the time. Louis had told me he would keep me company through the morning hours so I was expecting him.
I was sweeping and the sun hadn't come up yet, there was a candle lit and the sky was growing lighter shades of blue every minute. As I swept someone opened the door, A man walked in and sat down. I put the broom down and walked behind the bar. I couldn't see the man's face until he took his hat off. I immediately recognized him as the other bounty hunter Friedman had hired after Louis quit working for him. The man looked me in the eye, he gave me the creeps
"You know who I am girl?" He said in a thick accent.
"No"
"You're lyin. You know good en' well who I am" he said and I placed my hand on my thigh, outlining my knives with my fingers.
"I believe you are in cahoots with a boy by the name of Louis?... Well, he told the sheriff a week or so ago, that he thought you had some relation to the Seven Sirens..."
My face tensed.
"Now now, I just need you to come with me." He said with a strange calmness in his voice that, ironically, really scared me.
"Where?"
"I'm just gonna take you to the station and put you in that cell, it won't be for an hour or two before I clear some stuff up and you can go on home." He said.
"No. You aren't a federal officer, you can't arrest me, and I am not going anywhere with you willingly."
I knew man wouldn't hesitate to use force.
He stood up and slowly started making his way to where I was. When he got to the bar he placed his hand on his gun. He whipped it out and fired a shot. He missed. I threw a knife and it landed in his upper shoulder, I wanted to slow him down, not kill him. I threw another one, it landed on his stomach cutting a hole in his shirt and then bounced off, I could see that he was wearing a plate of armor under his shirt. I turned around, put my hands on the bar, and started to lift myself up so I could jump over.
I got on the other side and the man followed me he grabbed my arm, I did a grappling move and flipped him over onto his back. As I ran he grabbed my leg and quickly yanked me down to the ground.I grabbed a knife and plunged it into his hand! He let go, and with his other hand pointed his gun and fired a shot. He was clearly not thinking well enough to aim so the bullet grazed my cheek creating and minor hash on my face. I reached down to grave another knife, and then I remembered I only had three on me today! I stood and immediately reached down, grabbing his belt with his guns and the gun out of his hand. The man stood and he ripped the knife out of his hand, I pointed the gun at him and fired a shot toward his shoulder, the clip was empty.
He reached forward grabbing me and punched me in the eye! I shoved his arm away but it was no use, he was two times my size and I couldn't win in hand to hand combat. I tried to run turning around but he wrapped his arms around my stomach and threw me onto the ground! He sat on my stomach and the weight of his body began cutting off my circulation! I could barely feel my hands but I managed to pull my right arm out from under him and I began to reach for the knife that I had stabbed his hand with. The man began punching me! One punch straight to my lip spread blood across my chin, all the while I was reaching for the knife that was so close but felt like it was miles away. I knew why he was punching me in the face so much, he was trying to knock me out! Suddenly i spotted Louis enter to see me on the ground bloody and this man beating the sh*t out of me.
He didn't hesitate. He ripped his gun out and began yelling.
"PUT ONE MORE HAND ON HER AND IT'LL BE THE LAST MOVEMENT YOU EVER MAKE!" The man quit, Louis instructed him to sit down in a chair and then in the span of a minute or two, Louis had him tied to the chair in the saloon.
I couldn't move properly, my brain couldn't digest that I was wounded so I continued laying there on the ground until Louis had finished tying him up.
Louis dropped the gun and ran over to where I was laying.
