"Tell me more about your past."
I looked at Black Star as we walked down the hall.
"Sure."
~3rd POV~
Levi grabbed Mae and teleported outside the palace. The two girls were falling toward Earth. Mae positioned herself on top of Levi. There was a boom when they hit the ground. Levi groaned. She then flipped Mae onto her back.
"You are not fit to be like us!"
Mae spat in Levi's face.
"It's not like I had a choice! Make me human, a mortal. I don't care."
Levi raised the kunai and stabbed it into Mae's heart. She stood up and smiled.
"Now, Father will be pleased. The problem child is gone for good."
Levi disappeared as a blonde girl ran over to Mae. She knelt down.
"Are you okay?"
"Yep. Don't worry about me kid. Just go back to your normal life."
The girl shook her head as tears came to her eyes. Mae smiled and grunted when the girl pulled the kunai out. The blonde put a hand over the wound.
"Don't worry. I'll make you all better. How old are you anyways?"
After a second, Mae felt better and sat up.
"I'm seven."
The blonde laughed and stood up, helping Mae off the ground.
"I'm older! By the way, my name's Tiz."
She held out her hand. Mae grabbed it and grinned.
"I'm Mae. Can I live with you?"
"Of course."
Mae followed Tiz back to her house. She looked around as they went up the stairs to Tiz's room. Tiz sat on her bed turning her gaze to Mae who smiled mischievously.
"Wanna see something cool?"
"Sure."
Mae became a katana. Tiz picked her up and swung her around.
"Awesome! Oh! You can be my weapon. I'm a meister. But before we do that, I wanna do something to make sure we never lose each other."
Mae changed back into a human as Tiz grabbed her hand. She closed her eyes for a moment then opened them again.
"There. I've connected our minds. This link has two purposes. Mind control, and if I ever need eyes and ears."
Mae stared at her, frozen in awe.
"How did you do that?"
Tiz plopped back down on her bed.
"My mother was a witch. I mostly inherited my dad's meister abilities though so I can't do everything she does. Plus, I've never even met her."
Mae sprawled on the bed as Tiz sighed. They locked eyes.
"Let's be best friends okay? That way we'll always be there for each other no matter what."
"Okay."
Both girls were smiling as they fell asleep, still lying side by side. Mae was happy that she found a friend who'd stay with her no matter what.
-Next Day-
Mae looked at the lunch Tiz made her.
"Do you make lunch for yourself everyday?"
Tiz nodded.
"Dad works early and unless he gives me money for school I get my stuff together on my own."
Mae frowned. She walked into the bathroom and stared at her reflection.
"I don't like my hair. I want to change it's color."
Tiz walked in and looked at her.
"Why?"
"It reminds me of the family I once had."
Tiz put a hand on Mae's head. Slowly, Mae's hair changed from jet black to bright red. Mae shrugged.
"Okay. It works."
Tiz giggled and they left. On the way to school a couple kids passed them. They looked at Tiz and whispered to each other, pointing at her. Mae got fed up after awhile.
"What are you looking at?"
The kids turned and ran off. Mae huffed and looked at Tiz.
"Why do they do that?"
"I don't talk and people think it's weird."
"You don't talk? Why not?"
Tiz shrugged. Once at the school, the two girls went to the office. Mae walked up to the desk.
"Hi, I'm Mae."
"Oh! You're the new girl?"
Mae nodded.
"You'll be in room 17. They skipped you a grade ahead since you are too smart for 2nd grade."
"Okay, thank you."
They left. Tiz showed Mae to her class, and left when the bell rang. Mae sat at a table in the back of the room. A couple girls sat in front of her.
"I swear to God. I asked her a question and she just stared at me."
"Tiz is weird. I mean, who doesn't talk at school?"
Mae growled loud enough to make the girls turn around.
"Don't talk about my best friend like that. So what if she doesn't talk? Maybe she doesn't have anything to say to bullies like you."
THe girls turned around and didn't talk about Tiz again. Mae sighed and sat through class, waiting for lunch to come. When the bell rang, she walked to Tiz's class.
"I hate the kids at this school."
Tiz looked at her curiously.
"Some girls were saying mean things about you."
Tiz shrugged. Mae threw her arms up.
"Don't act like it's okay! People shouldn't bully others. Especially my best friend!"
Tiz laughed and glanced at Mae, who stuck her tongue out.
"Shut up."
Tiz raised her eyebrows causing Mae to facepalm.
"This is going to take awhile for me to get used to."
Tiz shrugged.
Later, after school, Mae sat on the couch. She sighed.
"So what do you want to be when you grow up?"
Tiz paused and turned to Mae.
"A meister like Dad, but I would also like to learn some magic."
Mae cocked her head, deep in thought.
"If that's gonna happen then you have to start talking more."
"Trust me, I'm trying."
~Mae's POV!~
-Now-
Black Star paused for a moment.
"She never spoke in elementary school?"
I shook my head.
"No but it didn't stop her from trying to pursue her dream of becoming a meister."
Black Star grinned and started running.
"Then I won't stop in my pursuit of trying to beat her in a fight!"
"Black Star!"
I chased after him.
