Kise had just finished a modeling gig in Tokyo and was headed back home.
He decided to stop by Maji Burgers for a bite first and turned to cross the street to get there. With any luck, he might see Kuroko or Aomine or someone else there. When he neared the fast food shop at the corner of the road, Kise recognized a familiar setup with a bicycle and wagon vehicle. There was only one person he knew that had a wagon like that.
He broke out into a light jog and excitedly entered the store.
"Midorima-cchi!"Two student players in their black Shūtoku uniforms turned around, after placing their orders at the counter.
"Hey! It's Kise-kun from Kaijō," Takao smiled.
"Hey, Takao-kun!" The blond strolled over to them. "I saw your cart outside and knew it was you guys," he explained.
Midorima faced him. "What are you doing here?"
"I just got off of a photoshoot." Kise charmingly smiled at the female behind the register and casually made his order.
The three of them stood by waiting for their food.
"Kise. It's your birthday today, isn't it? Here." Midorima pulled out a dime from his wallet and gave it to his former teammate.
The recipient looked at the coin. "What's this?"
"It's American change for ten cents. Gemini's lucky item today is foreign money," he stated. "And, for Cancers today are nail clippers." Midorima produced that from his schoolbag as well. The prevalence of the green-haired male obtaining and carrying around daily Lucky Items was crazy, but remarkable nonetheless.
Takao laughed while Kise accepted his small gift with a forced smile.
"Haha... Thanks, Midorima-cchi! I'll get you something for your birthday, too."
The shooting guard pushed his glasses up. "I'll look forward to it."
.
After eating together, with Midorima reluctantly joining the two at the table, Kise left to go back to Kanagawa.
It was roughly an hour and a half by train, and he had school the next day. But, he, like Aomine, wasn't one to be too concerned about grades.
.
When he arrived home, a package was waiting for him at his house. It was a rather small gift, about the size of his hand. "Huh?"
The label said that it had been mailed from Miyagi.
He beamed. "Ai-cchi!"
Unable to contain his excitement, Kise tore it open and found a box with an envelope attached. He pulled the lid off and finally saw what was inside. A single blue hoop piercing gleamed back at him.
"Wow! Neat!" Kise happily took it out and looked at it under better lighting.
At first, the ear accessory appeared to be dark blue, but as he twisted it in between his fingers under the light, he saw the subtle hues of light blue as well.
Kaijō and Teikō; colors tell everything. He opened the handmade yellow card next.
Happy birthday, Ryota-kun.
Let's go to a karaoke place together again. Remember to make good memories with your current team. I miss you, but I hope to see you again soon.
Sincerely,
AiIf it wasn't for the geographical preclusion of being separated, he would visit his other favorite manager every weekend. Ai was transcendent and one of his best friends.
Grinning from ear to ear, Kise rushed to the nearest mirror to wear his new present. He took out the silver hoop in his left earlobe and replaced it with the blue one. He couldn't wait to show it off to everyone.

Author's Note:
Kise's favorite pastime is singing karaoke, and Ai's pretty good at it, too. 😊
Also, he only has his left ear pierced because it hurt too much.***

It's not unusual for students to attend schools in a different prefecture from their residence. Some people take two hours by train just to get to school, and then another two hours back. (Hinata is kind of an example; he still lives in Miyagi, but in the next town over from Karasuno. I imagine it takes him at least a good hour of cycling over the mountain to get to school every day. When I went to high school in Kyoto, there were students who lived in Osaka, Nara, and Shiga prefectures.)
I didn't know for sure if Kise had moved to Kanagawa or if he was commuting from Tokyo, the house he presumably lived in during middle school. I couldn't find definitive proof, but after listening to the CD special, I think he did move.
