Chapter 9: Benny-Boo
"Mom said, if a boy can't see the beauty within, then he's not worth it. Can you believe it? What world does she live in?" Jane complained to us.
"Auradon," I muttered sarcastically.
The boys were out doing tourney or something so it was just Mal, Evie, Jane, and me. Evie was working on a new shirt, Mal was working sketching out some new ideas for her 'Long Live Evil' graffiti, Jane was complaining about her mom, and I was working on my latest drawing.
"Mal, do you like?" Evie asked, holding up the black and blue shirt she was working on.
"Yeah," Mal said, "It's cute. It really brings out your eyes."
"I know," Evie said dreamily, admiring her work.
"I'll never get a boyfriend." Jane continued to complain, taking a seat on Evie's empty bed.
"Boyfriends are overrated." Mal dismissed, going back to her sketches.
"And how would you know, Mal? You've never had one." Evie asked with a smirk.
"It's cause I don't need one, E. They're a waste of time." Mal defended herself, "Right, Sky?"
"Hey, leave me out of this," I said. I couldn't really defend either Evie or Mal. After all, I went through quite a few relationships on the Isle, none of them were ever really serious though.
"I forgot to do Chad's homework!" Evie said, getting up from her work to grab Chad's backpack. "Oh, no! Oh, no, no, no."
"And that is exactly what I mean," Mal said with a smirk.
"Hey, guys! I'm Lonnie." A girl with short black hair came into our room. "My mom's Mulan?" She looked between Mal and I, who just gave her blank stares. "No? Anyways, I love what you've done with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us, and, well, you're evil. But do you think you could do mine?" She asked bluntly.
"Why would I do that for you?" Mal fired back.
"I'll pay you 50 dollars," Lonnie said, holding up a small bag.
"Good answer." Evie jumped up from her spot, "I need to buy more material. Let's see, I'm thinking, we lose the bangs, maybe some layers and some highlights."
"Yeah, yeah. I want it cool. Like Mal's." Lonnie said, giving Mal a smile.
"Really?" I asked.
"The split ends, too?" Evie joked and Mal gave her a dirty look. Evie shook the little bag of change and Mal reluctantly grabbed the spellbook from her nightstand.
"Okay... Beware, forswear, replace the old with cool hair." Mal read the spell and waved her finger about, similar to how she did Jane's.
Lonnie's once short and black hair was replaced with longer, deep-brown hair that was curled and laced with light brown highlights. She walked over to the stand-up mirror that was placed in the corner of our room to look at her new hair. We all followed her to watch her reaction to the new look. Honestly, the new look was a lot prettier than her old one.
"I know. I know. It looks like a mop on your head." Evie said from beside her, "You know what? Let's cut it off, layer it..."
"No, no, no, no, no, no! I love it." Lonnie said, admiring her hair in the mirror.
