Chapter 14: Poof
It was the night before the coronation and we were all getting ready to go to bed for the night. Evie was busy hogging the bathroom and Mal was on her bed going through her spell book again while I was on my bed sketching in my notebook.
There was a knock at the door. I looked to Mal, to see if she knew who it was, but she only shrugged.
She put her spellbook on the nightstand that was next to her bed and started working on some homework while I got up to answer the door.
I swung open the dorm room door to reveal him.
"What do you want?" I asked dryly. I was still upset with him for what happened earlier today.
"Can we talk?" I noticed him glance behind me at an all-too-curious Mal and Evie, "Alone?"
I sighed before heading out into the hallway with him, closing the door shut behind us.
"What do you want, Parker?" I asked again.
"I want to apologize for what happened earlier today."
"Why? So you can go and tell Chad all about it?" I sassed.
"No, because I genuinely feel bad about today." He said defensively.
"Really, 'cause you did a great job of ditching me and my friends after what happened. Not to mention the fact that you ditched us for the same people who hate us." I retorted.
Did I mention that I was still mad at him? Cause I am.
"So what?" He snapped, "Are you saying I should just ditch my friends, just because a few of them don't like you? Are you saying that I should just up and leave the people who have been there for me for years, all for a girl I met a few weeks ago?"
"That's not fair, and you know it!"
I saw him hesitate, just for a split second. His eyes glanced down at something. I followed his gaze, only to realize he was staring at the black and purple bruises that lined my knuckles.
"Well guess what," he seethed, "life isn't fair."
With that, he stormed off. Most likely to go complain to Chad or Audrey about our little fight.
I never meant to start a fight with him. But I did, and it was too late to take it back now.
I took a deep breath before turning back around and heading back into the dorm room, where Mal and Evie were most likely eavesdropping.
Evie was sitting at the table, working on some designs in her sketchbook, and Mal was sitting on her bed, still working on homework. I ignored the looks they were both giving me and went straight to my bed, plopping face-first into the soft blankets and fluffy pillows.
"You ok?" Evie asked, concern lacing her voice.
I removed my head from its comfortable position buried under my pillows, "No."
"Hey," Evie got up from her spot at the table and sat down next to me on the bed, "it's going to be ok."
I sat up and leaned my head against her shoulder, "How do you know?"
