It came out of nowhere,
the gloom of the rain,
which happened to ruin
a perfectly good day.
And Allen McNee,
all soaked from the rain,
as plain as can be,
had nothing to attain.
Except a bit of money,
and possibly a train
ticket to Nebraska.
Then he'd have nothing to gain.
But McNee met his boss,
and thought, 'Oh, just my luck!
We can talk of my loss,
and I'll never be stuck!'
But the boss had a face,
it was annoyed and tired,
mixed with relief
that this man would be fired.
'I'm sorry,' he said,
no regret in his tone,
'your position of Head
will be eliminated.'
And Allen McNee
lost all hope for his life,
that a boss such as he
could cause him such strife.
But he nodded and turned,
unsure how to say
that he and his family,
received no more pay.
