Laura has been looking through her bag for a pair of scissors but she couldn't see one.
'How can you forget your scissors, Laura?' She closed her eyes hoping a pair of scissors will magically appear right in front of her.
"Um, Dylan." She called her seatmate in the humblest voice she can in hopes to borrow what she needs. His brow rose in curiosity.
"Can I borrow your scissors?" Dylan gazed at her for a second then turned to look through his bag. He tried checking all the pockets in his bag, but he too didn't bring his.
"Oh, here it is." He gladly said and turned to Laura. He handed his hand with folded fingers emphasizing his index and middle finger and motioned them as if they were a pair of scissors. Dylan's eyes can be compared to a kid that has been taken to the greatest amusement park in the world and the smile he had shown seemed like a person won a lottery. Laura caught off guard, chuckled at his act.
"Sorry, Laura. I forgot to bring mine too." Dylan scratched his head.
"Why am I not seeing you forming groups yet? You are just as slow as a third-world country's economic progress! The time is running!" The teacher aggressively clapped her hands signaling everyone to hurry to their assigned spot.
Laura went straight near the door and waited for other members to join in.
Dylan cringed at himself still unable to move on from what he did.
'Why did my weirdness have to dominate over me?' Dylan's thoughts were interrupted when the teacher threw a small piece of chalk in his head.
"And where do you think you are as of the moment, Mr. Alcantara? We are in the digital age already! Quit acting like a caveman. Don't let the grass grow on your feet." Dylan looked around and everyone was settled in their groups and only he wasn't.
'You're such an embarrassment.' Dylan looked at a small paper he held in his hand and immediately went to Laura's group.
"Lend me your ears, everyone. You have to reenact whatever it is that I have given to your leaders. You may create a situation that best explains its contents. Be creative and lively. And yes, you have to present it today. Again, today and not tomorrow. Start!"
There has been a lot of discussions within groups. The teacher opened her book and started reading never really distracted by all the noise her students made.
After an hour, the teacher closed her book and clapped her hands twice. It was a signal to stop whatever it is that they're doing and turn their heads to her.
"Push the chairs aside and prepare for the group presentation. Move!" Everyone stood and began doing her command.
"How's your group, Laura?" Heather whispered.
"They're fine but I'm nervous for my role," Laura whispered back pushing a chair.
"You can do it. I'm rooting for you." She winked and continued pushing more chairs.
"Where's the first group? C'mon! Time's running!" Laura's members started gathering up at the front and started introducing their characters.
"On a sunny morning, presidential candidates crossed their paths with each other..." The narrator told the class.
Laura went walking absent-mindedly that she almost fell off. Luckily, Dylan was there for her rescue. They looked each other in the eye and stayed for a moment. The room was filled with giggles to their scene. When Joshua was entering the stage, Laura went off and came to his side not speaking a single thank you for Dylan.
