Laura, wearing her workout outfit, sat idly while scanning the park within the school allotted for studying or whatever purpose the school staff may come up with. She scanned through her phone and tapped the camera icon and started looking for perfect angles when suddenly, she saw a girl approaching her on the screen. She held her phone down to greet her.
"Hey, how are you?" The girl sat beside her seemingly satisfied she found Laura.
"I'm fine. What's your name again?" Laura kept forgetting to ask her name but she made sure this time.
"Oh, call me Ratie." She simply answered.
"Ratie?" She wondered.
"Yeah. You see these teeth right here?" She slightly opened her mouth and pointing to her upper front teeth.
"They're prominent, so everyone calls me Ratie. I actually like it. It sounds cute." She said and put her hair up in a pony. Laura nodded to her statement.
"Hey, run with me." Ratie started doing warm-ups.
"Why?" Laura, not wanting to disappoint her, also started doing the same.
"Oh, I'm one of the representatives of the school for the Olympic competition." She twisted her shoulders while looking at Laura.
"Really?" Laura's eyes were wide open in amazement as she was twisting her body.
"Gotta train hard for the reputation of the school." Ratie chuckled and started to jog in place.
"You're gonna ace the competition for sure." Laura started twisting the joints in her lower body.
"You're pressuring me, Laura." She laughed and started doing high knees.
"Am I? I bet you could've done two laps and I'm just halfway on the first lap yet." Laura did jumping jacks and feeling her body warming up. After 5 minutes of warming themselves up, they wiped their sweats for a while and started walking to the oval.
"Let's go!" They both jogged on the oval.
"I'm kinda nervous to join the competition," Ratie mumbled while catching her breath.
"You will make it. Win or lose, you're still a winner."
"How does losing make me a winner?"
"Well, you're doing the best that you can. It's not your fault to lose. Winners never quit. The mere thought that you are joining the whole school is already a big thing. You can do it." Laura declared her speech in broken breaths.
"Did you just become a motivational speaker?" Ratie chuckled. "Thank you for encouraging me. That somehow calmed me down."
"You don't need to thank me. I know you'll make your way out of it." Laura assured her more.
"Whoever runs less is gonna treat some ice cream." She laughed and started to speed her run.
"Just wait until I catch you." Laura laughed too and tried running at Ratie's pace.
They were happily running on the oval together with some bystanders running also with them.
"Almost there," Ratie shouted and aimed at the fine line where they started. Laura, tired from running the laps for the third time, lost the energy to run any longer and decided to walk slowly.
