He thought he was the last one of his kind, she thought she would never find anyone else like her... And one fateful day, after a long battle to save themselves from their enemies, there they were: they had found one another.
From that day on, the...
It is the year 3000. Our dear planet Earth has become something different, and humans have transformed to adapt. Climate change destroyed the world as we know it, and people had no choice but to evolve, in a sense.
People live in villages and they have gone back to a simpler living because the planet does not tolerate abuses anymore. If humans go astray, the Earth rebels.
In this day and age, there are no lawyers, no courthouses, no police stations, no industries, and no pollution. If a man and a woman want to marry, the man simply invites the woman to his tent in front of the community. If someone is a victim of wrongdoing, they take the issue to the wiseman. If someone needs a doctor, there is a healer in the village that cares for the wellbeing of people. No hospitals exist.
Digital technology is absent, it was all destroyed by Mother Nature. Continents are mostly under water and only a few patches of dry land emerge here and there from the oceans.
People live in small groups scattered far and wide. There are tribal systems that have helped keep the order. However, there is one group that has not fallen into place, they are pirates, scavengers, that raid the seas and terrorize the lands.
For centuries, two groups fought side by side to defend the helpless villagers from the attackers, the Sunlighters and the Moonlighters, the first one composed by male fighters who could jump high and glide down, men who could skillfully use any weapon; the second class was formed by women who developed the ability to go unnoticed, cloak and blend in any environment, almost becoming something else. They were a people of female warriors and hunters, who matched men in physical agility and strength, in archery, riding skills and the arts of combat.
The Sunlighters and the Moonlighters lived and had offspring together. They chose a lifemate and raised their descendants to grow into warriors as well.
Something happened though that these mighty warriors one day disappeared, legend has it was a famine or maybe the scavengers' fault. There was only one left, HeDi. He thought he was the only fighter left, the last defender of the innocent, the only hope for humanity to survive and not be absorbed by a faction of unscrupulous and depraved creatures.
One day, HeDi was fighting a group of raiders who were trying to steal from a family. The sound of his sword hissing as it cut through the air, the smell of sweat, blood and fear were all around.
As he struck the final enemy, he heard a noise coming from the forest and turned around towards the trees. The leaves moved but there was no wind. Was it her again?
Yes. There she was. This time she stopped and stared at him with a deep, scrutinizing glare. Since he met her eyes for the first time a few days back, he was unable to erase the image from his mind.

HeDi took a few slow steps in her direction, but in a matter of seconds she was gone again, as if vanished into thin air.
The bewildered warrior was left looking around, searching for the enigmatic woman that he could not approach.
For a while, every time he fought a battle, HeDi could sense her presence following his movements, observing him. It was disturbing and irritating knowing she was there, but she would not let him go near.
Perhaps she was truly an enemy. Maybe she was studying his skills to find a weakness and a way of defeating him, because, until this day, HeDi has never lost a battle, and nobody has understood how he so quickly recovered from his wounds to fight another day.
