D'Quar is one of the most beautiful planets I've ever been to, and that's saying a lot. I've travelled the galaxy with Zoe, and yet I've never seen anything close to the unique beauty of D'Quar. The vast forests without a dead tree in sight, the lakes filled with sea-green water, and of course, the vast system of underground caverns that provide the Resistance with a place for their base.
I exit the Windfall, Domi and Trayden flanking me like bodyguards. Padme and Anakin lead Aria out of my ship into the bright sunlight. Leia marches over to me and wraps her arms around me, and I return her rare display of affection.
She cups my cheek and smiles, her dimples deepening. "So, Poe managed not to get you killed?" She teases, shooting a look his way. "When has that ever happened?!" Poe yells back, lifting BB-8 out of his orange and black X-wing. "Several times! Remember that time on Hoth-" He cuts me off by lifting me up off the ground, which he immediately regrets when I start laughing maniacally. "No, no no! Please have mercy!" He says, cowering in fear.
"What did you say?" I ask, cupping my hand over my ear. He rolls his eyes, but says "Please have mercy, Your Highness". I nod my approval and look at Anakin, signalling him to come over. He and Padme walk over to me, and we look at Leia's retreating back.
"Is that- her?" Anakin asks nervously. "Yeah." I respond, and Padme takes his hand and they walk over to Leia. I can't hear what they say, but their daughter's face says it all. It goes from confusion to disbelief and finally to joy. They embrace her for longer than I can count.
I walk over to my friends, who are conversing with Poe, his confidence restored now that I'm gone. I smile at the little home I've built, and I walk over to C3-PO and R2-D2, who are currently trying to assess the damage to the fleet, which is substantial.
"Oh! Miss Corvax! I'm afraid I may need your help here... Artoo says that the hyperdrive on your ship was damaged and not completely fixed, which can be dangerous. Unfortunately, none of our mechanics know how to fix it..." I smile and agree to help the two of them fix it, which ends up being mostly me and Artoo.
"Thank you, Miss! Now, if you'll excuse me, Artoo and I are going back inside before the creatures come out..." 3-PO says, wobbling back to the base with Artoo, who chatters and beeps the whole way. I stay out a bit longer, watching the moon rise higher into the sky.
"Are you busy? I was wondering if we could talk for a bit." Leia says, coming up from behind me. "Of course," I say, moving over on the ledge I'm sitting on. She settles in and sighs, the wind blowing a strand of hair that came loose from her braided bun.
"So... Aria." She says, looking at me. "I can't ever thank you enough for bringing her back." She says, tears forming. "And my parents...". I take her hand and look her in her eyes. "She mentioned having a brother... Does she mean Kylo Ren?" I ask.
She pauses and nods. "His name is Ben. No matter how many times he denies it, it will always be the truth." I smile and make a promise I know I must keep.
"I promise to bring him back Leia. You have my word."
