As soon as Alexis got home she stashed the house phone and went to her room. She wanted to call Daysia immediately, but didn't want to interrupt her... Uh... Activities. She took a deep breath and smiled. She had never had a friend like this. She could tell this friendship was different... Better somehow than any she had had before.

She decided to take a quick shower to pass time until she could call Daysia. She his the phone under her pillow, hoping no one would call. Then she grabbed her things and left for the shower.

As soon as Alexis was finished she rushed back to her room, telling everyone goodnight as she went so they wouldn't bother her. She punched in the numbers to her cell as a swarm of butterflies awakened in her tummy... It rang... And rang.. And..

"Can I call you back?" Daysia asked as a way to answer.

"Umm... I'd have to call you. If the phone rings my mom will want to know who called." Alexis responded, confused.

"Okay call me in like an hour." With that Daysia hung up.

Alexis was taken aback by Daysia's rushed behavior, and an hour seemed like an eternity to wait to find out what the deal was. She tried reading, but couldn't really concentrate. So she ended up listening to music on her ipod. Music was a good distraction.

Exactly one hour later, Alexis punched in the numbers once again. This time Daysia answered with a simple "hello."

"Hey," Alexis said. "What's up?"

"Nothing. What are you doing?" Daysia asked.

"Oh just wondering what you were doing earlier when I called." Alexis answered honestly.

"Doing chores. Our sink is broke and I had to wash dishes, so I was washing them in the bathtub. I didn't want to risk getting your phone wet." Daysia responded.

"Doing dishes in the bath tub; I've never heard of that." Alexis said.

"Well around here we have to make due." Daysia said sounding defensive.

"I didn't mean it like that... I just meant you don't deserve to have to do that. Do your brothers help you?" Alexis asked.

"Sometimes my younger brother does. My older brother never does." She said.

"My sisters never help me, if that makes you feel better." Alexis said lightly.

"I bet Daphne would tell me differently." Daysia laughed.

"Oh I bet she would. She loves telling people how much she does, but I live with her lazy ass so I know the truth!" Alexis laughed. "Besides she's always reminding me you were her friend first."

"She's right about that. We used to make fun of you." Daysia laughed.
