Alexis was half hoping her mom would say no. I mean, who knows, maybe her mom wouldn't want her to go. And why didn't Daphne go?

"Mom," Alexis said.

"What?" Her mother replied.

"Bea is having a birthday party and she wants me to come." Alexis started.

"Oh yeah?" Her mother sounded happy that she had a friend. "When is it?"

"Tonight, but its okay if you say no-"

"Bea just lives like two blocks away, right? In the trailer on the corner?" Her mom asked.

"Yeah, but I know you haven't met her parents or anything." Alexis said.

"I trust your judgement." Her mom said. "Have a good time."

Alexis felt some butterflies fill her stomach. She was truly hoping her mom would say no. Oh, well. She kinda wanted to know why Daysia had wanted her to come.

When Alexis arrived Daysia and Dahlia were playing on a desktop computer in the livingroom. Dahlia's dad was sitting in a recliner. He was a redhedded man, who was a little on the short side, but well built and who had a permenant mean look on his face. He scared Alexis. She immediately regretted coming over.

"Hey Alexis!" Dahlia said. "Listen to this it's helarious."

Dahlia played a recording that sounds like Donald Duck is getting a blow job. Daysia and Dahlia laughed uncontrollably. Alexis fake laughed because she felt uncomfortable. Was this what all kids her age were doing?

When Bea got back everyone ate pizza and watched a movie. Daysia and Dahlia were acting wierd after dinner. Alexis saw them trying to communicate without giving anything away.

"Oh, just have a cigarette!" Bea yelled at Dahlia.

"Oh my god, Bea! Shut the fuck up!" Daysia said.

"Why? Are you afraid Alexis will figure out you smoke too?" Bea blurted out.

Dahlia Bea's parents had made their way to bed already, so Alexis felt like Bea was trying to upset Daysia and Dahlia.

"I really don't care." Alexis said. She had no idea kids her age were smoking. Who did that? And why wasn't she? How cool would she look smoking??

"You better not tell anyone!" Dahlia said as she lit up a cigarette and then handed her lighter to Daysia.

"Who am I going to tell? Your parents?" Alexis asked as if smoking were no big deal.

"My parents know. Who do you think buys my smokes? Daysia's mom doesn't know though so you better not tell her. Or anyone at school." Dahlia said.

"I am not the tattle type. Your secret is safe with me." Alexis said.

By the time the movie was over, Dahlia was fast asleep.

"Oh my god, let's draw a penis on her forehead!" Bea suggested excitedly.

"You can!" Daysia said. "She can be a real bitch if you wake her up."

"I thought she was always a real bitch." Alexis interjected rudely. Then smiled at Daysia.

Daysia said, "She's really not that bad."

Bea did draw a penis on Dahlia's forehead. Then the trio headed to Bea's room.

"Shit, I forgot my cigs." Daysia said turning around.

Bea and Alexis went on into Bea's room.

To this day, Alexis doesn't know why but she wanted to smoke with Daysia. Actually she needed to smoke with Daysia.

"I know you didn't come back without a cigarette for me." Alexis said as Daysia walked in.

Daysia handed her a cigarette, grinning. Alexis accepted the cigarette carefully.

"Now give me your lighter." Alexis said.

"Come and get it," Daysia replied with a daring grin.

Alexis pounced on her. She pinned Daysia against the wall. For one second their eyes met, Daysia's guard slipped, and that was all Alexis needed. She grabbed Daysia's hand and then spun Daysia so her front now touched the wall. Then she twisted Daysia's arm up behind her back.

"Drop the lighter." Alexis whispered in her ear.

Daysia shook her head, and Alexis applied more pressure. Daysia dropped the lighter. Alexis smiled and released Daysia.

"Thanks," she said releasing Daysia.

Alexis lit her cigarette and took a drag. The harsh smoke entered her virgin lings and burned like fire. She fought the urges to cough, but she felt like her lungs were seizing. A tiny cough came out and Daysia grinned as she expertly lit her cigarette.

Alexis continued to smoke as if she hadn't coughed at all. Then she sat down with Bea and Daysia and began gossiping.

After about an hour Bea fell asleep on the cot on the floor she called a bed. Alexis had wrestled Daysia like three times so far. She found that she was quite enjoying winning. Not just winning, but physically forcing Daysia to do what she wanted. She felt such power over Daysia. She loved the defeated, vulnerable look Daysia got when she gave up.

The girls looked around as silence fell. Three empty cigarette packs littered the floor, surrounded buy countless snack wrappers and empty pop cans. Bea's cot on the floor and a large chair in the corner were the only furniture in the room.

Daysia and Alexis both looked to the chair and then back to each other.

"I'm not sleeping on the floor." Daysia said confidently.

"Oh yes you are." Alexis said.

Both girls jumped for the chair st the same time. Alexis twisted Daysia's arm behind her back, as per usual. Daysia took a deep sharp breath. He r back was to Alexis' front and they were both bent over the chair.

But it was different this time. Daysia's eyes fell towards the floor. Her vulnerable look was more hurt. Alexis could feel the difference in Daysia. She dropped Daysia's arm.

"You take the chair." Alexis said.

"No, you take it." Daysia said.

Daysia had started making a palate on the floor. Alexis grabbed her arm and pulled her into the chair.

"We'll just share it." Alexis' stomach was a multitude of butterflies as she waited on Daysia's answer. Daysia's arm was still in Alexis' hand as they stared at each other.

She thought of how stupid she was! Daysia was going to think she was some kind of lesbian freak. What was she thinking?!

Daysia nodded and Alexis felt a rush of happiness fill her. She scooted over in the chair and let Daysia sit next to her.

Alexis felt strange being so close to Daysia. Daysia was silent and rigid. Alexis hoped she didn't come off so rigid. Was Daysia mad at her? What was wrong?
