Lenka's POV
"What is it?" When the others left, I stood behind to hear what the doctor had to say. He had a light expression on his face. I couldn't tell what he was thinking. But I had a feeling, it had something to do with (Y/n). Something about her has got me curious.
Dr. Sakaki sat behind his desk, opening a few files. "Lenka, I understand you have a goal. You wish to eradicate all aragami, correct?"
I nodded, a serious expression on my face. "That's right." The aragami, no matter what, shouldn't exist. They've caused more destruction, sorrow, and hopelessness than anything else in the world. There was no way we should leave them alive for any reason. Especially for taking away the only family I had.
Dr. Sakaki stared at me, then lightly smiled. "Then can I ask you a few questions about them?"
I blinked. Where was he going with this? I had thought it would be about (Y/n).
"What would you do, if aragami became more, human?" He asked suddenly.
I was taken aback. Why would he ask that? There was no way aragami could be human. The way they devour and kill every day is proof of that. However, I've decided to go along with him. "Then, it's possible, we could coexist maybe." I doubt it.
The doctor smiled. "Alright. Next question: What if they stopped devouring humans?"
"Then, there wouldn't be a reason to kill them?" I frowned in confusion. If they pose no threat to humanity, then there's no reason to hunt them down any more. Although, they've caused a lot of grief. It would take a lot for humanity to move on. There are many people out there whose hatred for aragami burn strong. I clenched my fists at my thoughts.
"My final question: Can you forgive Aragami, and accept them for who they are?"
"Dr. Sakaki, where are you going with this?" I asked suddenly.
The doctor gave a light hum. "I'm merely curious, Lenka. You're a kind person. I wonder how far that kindness can go when it comes to forgiveness. Especially if it's towards the greatest enemy of mankind."
I took a moment to respond. It wasn't easy, but it was the only thing I can come up with for now. "That would depend on them."
-X-
The first unit had another mission today. We broke apart in groups of two after battling a group of fallen Kongous. Alisa and I walked towards the Tranquil Temple. The atmosphere was cold, crisp, and deadly silent as we grew closer. Despite this, Dr. Sakaki's words repeated in my mind. How could I forgive Aragami, after everything they've done? I looked around the desolate scenery. It'll take decades for humanity to return to it's former glory. It's true aragami evolve by the day, but none of them showed promise to a peaceful future. It seemed impossible. However...
"Oi! Lenka!" Alisa smacked the back of my head.
"Guh! What was that for?" I rubbed my head, turning to her.
"We're in the middle of a mission, focus!" She scowled. "You've almost had yourself eaten a few times since you kept spacing out before. What were you thinking about?"
I sighed, looking towards the temple now in view. "Just... nothing, sorry."
She sighed as well. "You've been like this since you left the doctor. What happened?"
"Nothing. We just had a talk about aragami." I replied. It wasn't a lie. It was basically about aragami, and if it's possible to coexist with them. I glanced at her, as she stared at me expectantly. "Alisa, do you think you can forgive aragami?"
"Forgive aragami?" She raised a brow, when we heard a growl nearby. A few fallen orgetails were in the temple, surrounding a harvest spot. Alisa readied her god arc. "They aren't attacking, or seem hostile. Still..."
"Let's get rid of them." I nodded. I decided to stop thinking about the doctor's words, as I ran towards the group with my god arc at the ready. Alisa supported me, switching to gun form. Regardless of anything, aragami are the enemies of mankind. Until we've killed them all, humanity can never be at peace again.
The aragami noticed us, growling and roaring as they ran towards us. We made quick work of them, though, something bothered me. As I finished slaying the last of them, I noticed something they were doing while they attacked us. More like, they were trying to scare us. They made no move to actually kill us, except, bite the air before us. They never moved directly to kill. I narrowed my brow, wondering what was going on, when I heard Alisa call my name.
I followed her shocked gaze, then widened my eyes. "Is that...?"
There, on the ground, staring at the lifeless aragami, was a small boy. A toddler more like. This must be the boy Kota and Sakuya found, because he looked exactly like Soma. He looked up from the aragami, an innocent look on his face. I studied him longer, looking over his clothing. They looked like they were made from an aragami's skin. Specifically a Prithvi Mata's, judging by the blue coating. He stood from the ground, his hood falling over his small head. A small bag was wrapped around him, and he picked up something. It was a snowball.
"Is he...? Her son?" Alisa whispered, her eyes wide in shock.
I walked closer to the boy, as he held the snowball in his gloved hands. I crotched before him, trying to smile, despite the situation. "Hey, you ok?"
He stared, then blinked, then threw the snowball at my face. "Wha-! Hey!"
"Ball!" He pointed at the remains of the snowball I wiped away from my face. I sweat-dropped. Honestly, he was still a baby, so I couldn't get mad.
Alisa seem to come back to her senses, since she stepped forward. "He seems ok. I don't think the aragami harmed him. So, what the doctor said was true. He's completely safe from aragami, just like her."
I watched the boy scuffle away to a pile of snow, creating another snowball as I stood up. "It seems so. It's no wonder the aragami wasn't trying to kill us. To be honest, I think they were protecting him." I wouldn't have believed myself if I hadn't learned this before hand.
"I noticed that too." She nodded. The boy came back, another snowball in hand, then threw it at my legs. She smiled softly. "He's cute."
"Ball..." He whispered, then blew into his hands. He was probably cold.
I made an attempt to pick him up, successfully bringing my hands under his arms and carrying him without a fuss. He was a calm boy. When he turned to me, staring curiously at my face, I asked, "What is your name?"
"S-sora."
