I rummaged through my room, looking for appropriate clothing to wear. If I'm going to rescue Soma, I thought it be best to be prepared in the right attire. Last I heard, the 1st unit had disappeared around the wailing plains. I heard it was incredibly windy there. On top of that, there were reports of a herd of vajra in the area. I seriously hoped Soma or the others wasn't overwhelmed out there. For them to disappear like that, the situation must be critical.

After changing, I ran straight to the doctor's office. I thought maybe there was something could help me with as I thought of a crazy plan to rescue them. Sakaki had just placed a large container of steaming cores on the table when I barged in. "(Y/n)? What wrong?"

"Soma! He's disappeared along with the 1st unit!" I gasped out, still out of breath from my running.

"Oh dear..." Sakaki rubbed his chin, his brow narrowed in thought. "But (Y/n), what do you plan on doing? You can't just go out there without protection..."

I glanced at the cores, feeling my eyes widened. Next thing I knew, I'm running towards them, and shoving them down my throat. Sakaki watched with guarded curiosity as my form quivered and shook from devouring the cores. My eyes were wide and feral, shifting colors and dilating from the different cores. When my breathing calmed down, I stared in shock at my hands, then slowly turned to Sakaki.

He had a small smile on his face. Somehow it didn't bother me. "(Y/n), how do you feel?"

"I... I don't know... But, I feel like I can do a lot right now..." I answered in a daze. "Like, my body is ready for anything..."

The doctor nodded slowly. "Then, why don't you? I think you'll be just fine out there on your own."

"On my own?" I shivered. I was still nearly horrified at all the cores I just ate. Not only that, it felt like my body was changing, adapting to so many things at a rapid pace. I barely had time to process what was going on in my mind. But one thing was for sure, Soma was out there somewhere. "I... I have to save Soma..."

Sakaki said nothing as I ran out the room. I didn't look his way, I just focused on finding my way out the den, ignoring calls of my name from people I didn't take time to recognize. Right now, there wasn't any units nearby to help them. And the defense unit couldn't be spared. Besides, people would just say that the 1st unit will be fine, that they're capable of anything. That may be true, but they're still human. They're still people who would be terribly missed if they were gone.

'Soma... He needs me... I need him...' I repeated in my mind as I jumped into the elevator. Saving Soma required a plan. As the elevator took me down to the den entrance, I thought of ways to find him. However, I hardly left the den for obvious reasons. It was going to be a bit difficult. 'Wailing plains... which direction was that? I may need to grab a map... Maybe some healing items too.'

When the elevator stopped, I was startled to see Tsubaki blocking the way out. She had a stern look on her face, watching me as I stood before her. "You're not on going out there, are you (Y/n)?"

"Soma, he's out there, and so is Lindow. They couldn't just have disappeared like that without something seriously bad happening. I have to go out there!" I tried convincing her. Although, is she even aware of my situation? Should I tell her?

"You can't even use a god arc, (Y/n). There's no way you'll even survive out there on your own. You'll be running into your grave before you even reach them. I can't believe I'm even telling you this when you should know this already..." She sighed.

I shook my head vigorously. "Tsubaki, I can help them! I may not be able to use a god arc, but I have other ways of helping. Even Dr. Sakaki can vouch for me! He knows what's going on with me! You can ask him!"

"(Y/n)." Tsubaki faced me sternly once again. "Stand down. That's an order."

"I can't!" I raised my voice, clutching my fists. Closing my eyes, I tried to keep myself from getting angry. I clenched my teeth, feeling my heart beat rapidly. I felt my body shook from some odd instinct that I never knew I had. "There's something going on out there! I can feel it! Soma's in danger! Lindow, Sakuya... They all are! I can help them! I have to go out there!"

"(Y/n)-!" Tsubaki took hold of my shoulders, gasping when I looked back at her. "Your eyes!"

"Huh?" I blinked, now noticing how different my vision looked. It was much different than a Zygote's. "What...?"

Tsubaki stepped away slowly. She took a moment to sigh, then pulled out what seemed like a radio that went in your ear. "Take this. I bet you don't know your way out there. You're going to need this so we can stay in touch."

I smiled happily and hugged her. "Thank you! I promise you won't regret it!"

"Better not." She smiled a little before moving away and giving me her usual business look. I stood in attention as she addressed me. "Now, this is your mission: Rescue and return safely with the 1st unit! Failure is not an option! Now get going!"

"Yes ma'am!" I nodded, running out the den in determination. 'Wait for me Soma, I'm coming!'

"Dammit!" Soma growled as another Vajra got in the way. He swung his buster blade, slashing the aragami's face. It roared in anguish, moving away on it's hind legs. "There's too many of them!"

"You're telling me!" Lindow pushed back another Vajra, looking around for Sakuya. "Sakuya! You alright?"

"I'm fine!" She called out from behind a building. She shot a few flaming bullets, driving a few aragami back, only for more to take their place. "I'm running out of ammo though! I'll only have medical bullets at this rate...!"

"That's fine, we'll take care of the rest!" Lindow grunted when he dodged a Vajra. "Try to contact HQ for reinforcements!"

"I tried! I'm not getting and signals!" Sakuya yelped when an aragami nearly pounced on her, as she rolled away.

"Sakuya! You alright?" Lindow barely managed to protect her with his deployed shield, when a Vajra sent them flying across the field. They rolled across the floor, farther away from Soma. Lindow clenched his teeth. "Damn, at this rate, we'll-!"

Soma slashed another aragami, then sidestepping out of the way from another. He glared at the herd of vajras blocking his path, clenching his teeth and gripping his god arc tighter. "(Y/n)..."

"Ok, I think I see the plains!" I told Tsubaki through the radio. As she gave me directions through the lands, I rode over a Sariel, flying through the skies towards the plains. My fiery eyes, matching the aragami's scanned the lands below for anyone of the first unit. Still no sign of them. "Tsubaki, how could they disappear? Don't they have radios like the one you gave me?"

"They do, I'm not sure what happened." She replied. "They just disappeared from the monitors, and somehow we can't contact them."

"I see." I held on tighter to the Sariel, my arms wrapped around it's shoulders and legs around it's waist. The Sariel made a noise of pleasure maybe? I had no idea if it was a purr or not, but it seemed happy. "Did you like that, Sariel?"

"(Y/n)..." I hummed when Tsubaki said my name. "I have yet to leave you to speak with Dr. Sakaki about your... situation. But I'm afraid my curiosity can't wait. How exactly are you able to..."

"Ride an aragami?" I smiled in amusement.

"S-something like that..."

I hummed in thought, as the wailing plains came closer. "I suppose I should thank my parents for this. But somehow, they made me like this. Like I'm one of them. Just by eating a core, the aragami consider me as their own. They're even friendly and want to protect me too."

"...I see. That is definitely different from the research we know."

When she said nothing more, I looked below to the plains, looking for Soma. That's when I noticed the sparks, then a Vajra leaping in the air. "Over there!"

The Sariel glided faster towards the commotion, I couldn't help blanching at the scene. Soma was held down by a Vajra, while Sakuya and Lindow were some distance away and surrounded by a group of Vajras. There was no way they could come to Soma's aid. As Soma struggled to reach for his god arc, the Vajra roared, ready to eat him.

"STOP!"
