Ink's POV
I played an adventure game on the console in the living room while I waited for my mother to get home from work. It was around six or seven in the evening. Ginger rested her head on my lap.
All of a sudden, the door opened and mom walked in. She looked messy and unorganized. Mom worked at a strip club as a bartender. That explained her appearance. Hiding under a large trench coat, was a slutty outfit and fishnet leggings. She wore heels and a questionable amount of makeup.
Mom: Hey baby.
She softly said as she fumbled her heels off before kissing the top of my head. Mom sat on the couch and watched as I played my game and softly petting the top of Ginger's head.
Me: Mom.
Mom: Yes?
Me: My school is giving us forms to attend a trip on a cruise. It requires two hundred dollars.
Mom: That's a lot of money, baby. It took us three years to save enough for the computer.
Me: It's okay mom. My friend... gave me money. He didn't let me refuse it.
She leaned against my shoulder.
Mom: Well that was nice of your friend. Make sure he knows that you're grateful.
I paused the game and set the controller down before tucking myself into her arms.
Me: I feel bad. How he had to sacrifice his own money all because I couldn't afford it.
My mother rubbed the back of my head.
Mom: I can relate, baby. I was the same way with your father, he was always offering me his money. I was independent and wanted to earn my own currency.
Mom quietly laughed at her memories with dad.
Mom: Then he won my heart when he took me to a place that I've always wanted to go. Oh, Ink. If your father could see you now. He would be so proud of the young adult that you have become. How about a chicken salad for dinner, I have a craving for that.
I nodded to her suggestion about food before picking up my controller again. While mom made dinner, I thought about the trip. I didn't understand why Error gave me money for it. Now that I fully think about it. I didn't understand why Error was being nice to me in the first place.
Mom quietly called me from the kitchen, saying that she was ready to eat. Soon, she would have to go to sleep before her long shift tomorrow. She was often tired because of work. Her coworkers were nice people, it was the customers that were the problem.
Sitting next to mom, I put food in my mouth to calm my hungry stomach. Mom was silent, a little more silent than normal. If I asked her, she would tell me truth. We made a promise not to lie to each other.
Me: What's wrong?
Mom: A costumer yelled at me. They were drunk while spitting racial slurs about monsters.
Me: Did he get kicked out?
Mom: Yeah. He did.
The kitchen was silent again. I thought about my grades. My mom always wanted me to have good grades and continually checked for missing homework. She didn't want me to end up like her. Although, she hasn't checked this week.
Mom: Have you finished your homework?
Me: No. I have a confession to make. Lately, I haven't been doing my homework because I haven't found motivation to do it. So I'm behind.
Mom was stared at her food for a few minutes. She didn't have an expression on her face.
Mom: Make sure you get them done, okay? You know how I feel about your education. Do you need any help?
Me: No. I am getting help from my teacher.
She hummed in approval as she moved her utensil around the food. The silence wasn't awkward, it's just there was nothing to talk about. Once I finished my salad, I picked up my bowl to wash it. After that I got ready for sleep.
My mom kissed me on the forehead before going to bed herself. I, however, wasn't going to bed as I wanted to finish one more assignment. While I was trying to find x for a triangle, my phone received a notification. Strangely, it was from the school.
'Why are they emailing us this late?'
The email read that there was a transfer student coming tomorrow. Make sure to treat them with kindness, so on and so forth. I never thought that a student would come in the later half of school. Well, you learn something new everyday. I didn't think nothing about it so I just went back to finishing my homework...
This sounds like fun
