TWENTY TWO
Spencer went to the kitchen and grabbed a wine glass. he never drank, but he was just so stressed out. it wasn't Samantha's fault, but he just needed a little break.
he grabbed his favourite bottle of red wine from the highest shelf in the kitchen and filled his glass. he took a few sips, thinking of who he wanted drink this with. but he couldn't call her, not now at least.
he finished his glass of wine and went to his room, getting into bed. he changed out of his work clothes and put on some comfortable pyjamas. he got into bed and quickly dozed off to sleep.
Spencer awoke to the sounds of someone talking. he got up quickly, grabbing his gun and walking out to the living room. he wasn't sure if someone was in the apartment and if someone was, he wanted to be ready for anything.
when he was in the middle of the living room, he noticed the noise was coming from Samantha's room. he put the gun down and slowly opened her door. she was still asleep but talking.
"please, don't"
"no stop!"
she yelled as she squirmed around the mattress. Spencer ran over and grabbed her shoulders, stilling her body.
"Samantha, wake up" he insisted.
he didn't know what to do. even with all his knowledge, he was frazzled in the moment. he did the one thing that came to mind, and he pinched her arm. she woke up with her eyes wide open and tears pricked at the corners. Spencer picked her up and held her close to his chest. he remembered that when she first met Penelope, she told her that when she is scared, she just wants someone to hug her.
she did hug him back and began to cry into his shirt. he could feel her tears soaking slowly though the fabric of his shirt, but it didn't bother him. he just wanted her to be okay and if this is what she needed, he would do it. whenever she cried, she began to snort when she was having trouble catching her breath. he began to rub her back because he knew that it helped calm a lot of people down when they were stressed or very upset. she began shaking and he made shshing noises with his mouth. he didn't want her to be quiet, he just wanted her to try and calm down.
after she had stopped crying so hard, she just stayed in his arms. he continued to rub her back because it seemed to be helping her which made him glad. they stayed like this for about 15 minutes before she actually stopped crying. she pulled away from Spencer and just down at the bed. he didn't want to force her into talking, but he knew that she needed to get it all out.
"Samantha, you can talk to me. i wont say anything if you don't want me to. ill just sit here and-"
"no, i don't want to talk about it anymore. i just want to go to sleep"
"Samantha, if you keep this bottled up it will just hurt more and more."
"don't you 'Samantha' me, Spencer!"
"i'm sorry, what?"
"stop acting like you know me! because you know what, you don't know me at all."
these words shocked Spencer. he never expected Samantha to ever talk to him like this. he hoped that this was just the lack of sleep and the trauma coming through, but she seemed to really mean it.
"i understand what you're saying, but you have been living here for a while and i think i know you pretty well!"
"well you thought wrong moron!"
Spencer had been called that name many times, but never by someone who thought had respected him and someone who he cared so much for.
after those words, Samantha stormed out of the room. Spencer wasn't far behind her, he knew that she couldn't be trusted at this time. she was at the door putting her shoes on.
"what do you think you are doing?"
"i'm leaving this crap place and you cant stop me"
"yes i can stop you"
Spencer then walked over and stood in front of the door. he knew that she wouldn't be able to push past him. sure he was tall and lanky, but he was still strong.
"Spencer, move out of my way!"
"no, now get back to your room now"
"i hate you!" and Samantha stormed back to her room.
those words stung Spencer. he tried to let it go quickly before it caused too much damage between them, but they just stuck around. he knew that he couldn't leave the door or she would leave in the middle of the night. so, he decided to just sit in front of it and sleep. but Spencer didn't end up going to sleep, how could he with all the thoughts running through his head?
