[0.9] The Maze

Isa was a runner today, Minho had come to the tower early to wake her up before the doors opened. Some of the boys made her a new leather vest, since the ones they had were too big for her, they put multiple holders on it so she could carry more than one knife, they grabbed their lunch and water from Fry then started towards the doors, waiting for them to open.

"You ready for your first day, Star?"

"As ready as I can be." She felt like she was holding her breath, she was nervous, she had been told constantly not to go into the maze and now she was. A hand on her shoulder caused her to jump.

"You're jumpy this morning, are you ok?" Newt's voice alone calmed her down some.

"I'm ok." She smiled up at him but he didn't seem convinced.

"Are you sure? We can wait until tomorrow for this."
"I'm ok, I'm serious Newt, I'm ok." The door started to open causing Minho to give her a look telling her to hurry up.

"Be safe ok?"

"I promise." She held out her pinky to him, he smiled and hooked his pinky with hers before Minho tore her away and into the maze.

Isa took note of her surroundings, she was going to have to memorize this, today was just about getting used to the maze, she could memorize it late but may as well try now.

"We cut the vines where we run so we can get back in case we get lost." She stayed silent most of the time, trying to take in what was happening. The maze was much bigger than she thought it was, it was never ending. This only gave her less hope of finding a way out. The two didn't talk much as to preserve their energy. The day went on and eventually it was time to head back.

"First day in the maze, how ya' feelin'?"

"There really isn't a way out of here is there? This maze is huge, it's like it's never ending. How do you still have the motivation to find an exit?"

"You have to have hope Star, the way out isn't going to be easy to find but we will find it. Maybe not tomorrow or next month but we will get out of here." She didn't speak the rest of the way back, her thoughts crowded her mind. Who said there was a way out, maybe it's just meant to look that way. Minho and Isa turn a corner to see the glade, waiting at the door was Newt.

"Have you just been waiting here for me?" Isa smiled out of breath.

"He's barely left the door!" Fry yelled from a far before Newt could answer. She turned back to him seeing his face starting to pink up.

"I was just worried, don't make this something it's not." He smirked at her but before she could respond Minho pulled her away toward the map room. Once inside, Minho removed the cover from the map, it was a very intricate mini model.

"It's the maze, all of it."
"So you lied, there's no chance of us getting out."
"It was Alby's call, he wants people to believe we have a chance of getting out. I think things are changing now though, with you coming up in the box, there has to be something we're missing. For now we run it, we learn, we search for details, we'll find a way."

"We'll find a way." Isa whispered quiet enough for only herself to hear. She needed to repeat it, she wanted to believe it. There was a knock on the door before it opened to reveal Ben.

"Bonfire for the new greenie is starting if you two want to come join, maybe beat Gally's ass in the ring again."

"I don't think I should piss him off anymore than I already have."

"We're coming." Ben nodded and walked out. "Well, let's go." They walked to where everyone was, she immediately found Newt and joined him in drinking whatever was in Gally's secret recipe. For the whole night she couldn't stop thinking, were they really trapped here forever?
