Chapter 2

Alya

I woke up lying down on a medical bed in what looked to be an emergency room. I was so confused about what happened, last I remembered I was beside a concrete cabin with Nico and Poppy but now, I am here. Was that all just a dream? I saw someone walk by my room but they didn't acknowledge that I was awake until I said hello. It was a doctor, he had blonde hair and a blond stubble and kind eyes. He came into the room with a smile across his face and said "You're awake! How are you feeling? Is there anything I can get you?" As he checked my vitals.

I smiled softly and answered "I'm alright and yes, could I get water?"

"Yes! Of course! I will also inform the people waiting for you that you're awake." He said as he was leaving the room.

Suddenly,a wave of fear came through me and everything clicked. I had one of my fits and Poppy had to take me to the hospital meaning they probably had called CPS and now the foster parents,who we were running away from, had come to get us.

I was on the verge of an anxiety attack when the doctor came back into the room followed by 2 people, who I noticed were Poppy and Nico. Poppy hugged me right away as she saw me,her long auburn hair was in face, I hugged her back. She pulled away from the embrace and I looked at Nico who was looking at me and then he said "I see you met my fiancé Will Solace"

I was quite shocked to hear this, I couldn't have imagined someone who loved Nico, much less someone that Nico loved.

"Oh wow! Congratulations" I answered

"Thank you, I must extend my welcome to Camp Half-Blood to you." said Will

I was so relieved to hear this, we made it to camp and CPS isn't going to take me and Poppy back to the foster home.

A loud beep came from Will's pocket. "Oop! They're paging me. I will see you guys later," he said as he rushed out the door.

Poppy waves him goodbye. Then, I turn towards Nico and Poppy and ask them "What happened? Am I going to be okay?"

Nico nods "Yeah, you're just dehydrated and exhausted. I should have explained this before-hand but shadow travel, how we got to camp, is extremely energy-sucking. Once you use shadow travel on a regular basis, you get used to it but newbies, like you, are put in critical positions at times."

I had a shocked look upon my face which quickly turned into a sour one "So, all I have to do is do that more often?"

Nico laughed in my face. I would have punched him if I didn't have an IV on my punching hand.

"Only hellbounds and children of Hades like me can shadow travel, so in other words you don't have to worry about that." said Nico as he calmed himself from laughing

Poppy interrupted Nico and said "Well you don't know, she might be a daughter of Hades for all you know".

Nico erupted into laughter again "You're funny, Poppy. Remember the deal with the Big Three, no more kiddos." he said while chuckling. "Anyways, you should recover quickly and be out of here by later today, which reminds me, I have a quest that we." He looks at Poppy "need to get going to save other half-bloods somewhere, I'll let you guys say goodbye to each other." he continued and he left the room.

Poppy looked at me and I asked her "I forgot to ask you, who's your godly parent, Poppy?"

She smiled "I'm actually not a demi-god. My dad is Grover, a satyr and my mom is Juniper, a dryad. I'm more of a dryad than a satyress, I've got the same earth powers as my mom but my dad's horns came in when he was 28 and I'm only 2 years away from that so hopefully soon " she said.

*Wait! You're 26?" I shrieked.

She nodded and said "We don't age like normal people haha" while chuckling but then her expression hardened. "Anyhow I gotta get going, I can't believe this is the first time in 4 years that I won't see you everyday"

As she said that, I noticed it as well and an overwhelming sadness came over me. My eyes began to water and a single tear rolled down my face. "I'll just miss you so much, Pops!" I said with a voice crack

"Awe no! Don't cry!" she said and hugged me "You will be fine, AJ. You are now at Camp Half-Blood, these people are your family! They will look after you and take care of you, you don't need to worry any more about keeping safe, alright?"

I nodded as I wiped my tears and I took a mental picture of her that I would always keep. Her pale skin, green eyes, chubby cheeks and her signature auburn hair.

"Which reminds me, there is a counselor which Nico arranged to come, sign you out and show you around when you get released tomorrow, alright?" she said as she pulled away from the hug.

I nodded and she hugged me once again "I'll miss you tons" she said as she grabbed her bag from my bed and left the room. I waved her off.
