Mitch and I walked into Andrew's school, him holding onto one of our hands. We bent down in front of him when we reached his classroom, "Bye bud. Daddy and I will pick you up after school, okay?"

"Okay dad." He gave me a big hug and then one to Mitch before running into class.

"Let's go find his principal." Mitch said, pulling me away from the door.

"Hello Mr. and Mr. Hoying. Take a seat." Mitch and I sat down across from the principal. He crossed his arms and sat back in his chair, "I understand you have concerns regarding some things said to your son, Andrew."

"We do, sir." Mitch started, "Andrew informed me last night that some kids are saying mean things to him."

"Such as?" He uncrossed his arms and set them on the desk in front of him.

"They told him he was adopted, though he wasn't. They were calling my husband and I cruel names no child should say."

"Like?"

"You, you want me to repeat them?" Mitch asked.

"Well, if you'd like, you can write them down here quick." He handed Mitch a piece of paper and a pen. Mitch wrote down words that I couldn't even look at on that paper knowing kids Andrew's age said them.

"We have a list of kids who have been saying these." I said to the principal, handing him a sheet of paper with kids' names on it.

"I will call their parents immediately and bring the students down here myself to talk to them about their behavior."

"Thank you sir. It means a lot for our son to be in a safe environment here. We don't want him hating school when we can fix why he does."

"I understand guys. I will do everything I can to make sure your son feels safe in school."

"How was school Andy?" Scott asked.

"It was fun. We did art today. Look." He handed Scott a drawing. It had Andrew in between Scott and I. Written at the top of the paper was 'I love my daddies'.

"It's amazing Andy. Let's go home and have pizza for dinner. Maybe we can get ice cream if daddy says it's okay."

"Daddy. Please can we have ice cream tonight?" He looked up at me with puppy dog eyes.

"Yes. Of course we can."
