it was quiet when you awoke. not particularly a deadly silence, for thunder still rumbled in the distance and rain still tapped against the window. a small groan would slip from your lips, eyes blinking heavily against what little light greeted you through the curtains not fully pulled back. and then you'd sigh. a long sound, muscles relaxing under the sheets covering your body. strangely enough it was warm, despite a sweater being the only thing that rested upon your shoulders and the lack of a body beside your own.

confusion wrote itself upon your face at the prospect, fingers curling the sheets before pulling them away completely. sure enough there was no sign of chishiya, who had slumbered peacefully just hours before. you still remembered the image clearly, having noted the parted lips bruised from kissing and features showing no sign of weariness. just peace. a completely foreign look on the man's face.

slowly you brought your body up, surprised to find that the ache in your side was nothing but that. an ache. perhaps resting really had helped the healing process, much more than you had expected. maybe it also meant that pretty soon you could play the final game you had anticipated since the moment the broadcast aired. a game with a woman you had once feared, but now considered your greatest challenge. the last obstacle to leaving the borderlands once and for all.

you shook yourself of those thoughts, deciding that despite the game sure to happen in the near future, you'd wait until that time had come to think of mira and any sort of psychological warfare. instead you allowed your eyes to drift towards the window panes blurred by water, raindrops racing down the smooth surface. it felt like rain was the only weather japan knew at the moment, for it had been happening for several days. another soft sigh escaped your lips, wondering when the weather would return to normal.

"i'm surprised my rummaging woke you up. you slept through a whole typhoon."

you didn't startle at the sudden sound, knowing who the teasing tone belonged to. your lips twitched up into an easy smile, head turning to find chishiya standing by the entrance of the doorway. without the lights on you could only make out the outline of the dress shirt he wore beneath his cardigan, along with the blond hair reaching his shoulders. you could barely make out any expression, but if you had to guess, it would be his signature smirk with amusement reflecting across hickory brown.

much too delayed you recalled his previous statement, your smile suddenly replaced by a shocked expression, "there was a typhoon?"

"it was quite the sight," he chuckled, taking several small steps towards the bed you sat upon, "pretty noisy too."

"i had no idea...i slept like a baby." you muttered, trying to recall even a fragment of memory belonging to harsh winds and crashing waves. yet the only scenes to surface were the ones before you fell asleep, filled with light touches and lingering kisses.

another laugh came from his throat, his steps pausing right beside you. however, chishiya did not pull back the covers to join you like before. he did not sit, and it was then that you noticed the shoes on his feet and the umbrella he twirled between his fingers, indicating only one thing.

"chishiya?" you asked quietly, your breath soft against the pattering rain. it was a question, and you glanced up to search his eyes for an answer.
