trigger warnings: panic attack, mentions of suicide
Jin wakes up early so he can prepare breakfast for the rest. This has become a daily routine for him, excluding the weekends — those are the days when they either hunt or Yoongi takes over the kitchen, so the eldest can rest after the whole week of work. The grey-haired man had suggested he would be in charge of food during the week as well, but Jin refused. Even though he would like to spend one more hour lying in bed, he enjoys preparing food for the younger ones.
Cooking has always been something he enjoyed. When he was a child, he would watch his mother work behind the stove, and he had always been keen to help. His father wasn't a fan of the idea, of course — back in that time, men were believed to not belong to the kitchen. But he used to be a child that would get his way easily. Not that he would have been a brat who would stomp his feet and cry his eyes out until they let him do whatever he had wanted. No, the only thing necessary was to give his parents a soft smile and tell them it would make him happy. They had loved their sons dearly, and so they made sure to give and allow them anything they wished for.
So you could say cooking is in a way a kind of a tie to his old life, the life before. It's one of the activities when he allows himself to relax completely, to free his mind of daily worries. Sometimes he finds himself in the grounds of bittersweet nostalgia, reminding him of his mother's harmonic laugh and instructions she would give him. Those are the moments when his mind races in the directions he doesn't want, and he becomes short of breath.
Luckily, he has the guys to anchor him in situations like this. And he has learnt to control these thoughts as well, so they are not that common anymore.
Soon, he is joined by Namjoon and Yoongi: their hair is messy and while Yoongi is still in Hoseok's hoodie, Namjoon is already dressed up for work. The younger one makes tea and coffee, since each of the inhabitants of the apartment prefers something else in the morning. Jin can't help but wonder if Jungkook has any preferred drink that would cheer him up in the morning. Something that would show him he is welcomed in the little world of theirs. With enough luck he will find that out, so he pushes the thought into the back of his mind and enjoys the presence of the two men.
This is the way it usually is. Embraced by comfortable silence, the three of them are doing their thing in the kitchen, enjoying the others' company. Until Hoseok and the maknaes get (or crawl) out of their rooms. That's when it all becomes a bit too chaotic: and today is, of course, no exception.
A strong thud is heard, and both Namjoon and Jin glare in the direction of the sound. Jimin, who is already dressed up in a school uniform with his bag over the shoulder, has over-dramatically shut the door behind him, rushing out of the room to sit behind the kitchen counter. A mumbled good morning is all they get, and the eldest feels the need to let out a loud sigh. With the pout formed on the boy's lips and the way his chin is held up hight, it can mean only one thing.
The look on Taehyung's face works as a confirmation. He comes out of the room almost right after Jimin, and his facial features reflect a mixture of annoyance and remorse. The place opposite Jimin is where he always sits, and so he slides down on the stool and says: "Look, I'm sorry, okay? Didn't mean to make you mad. But it's true!" The boy's voice is low and still hoarse from sleep. Seeing Jimin's hurt expression — who, by the way, is looking anywhere but at Taehyung —, he is not satisfied with the apology.
Yoongi peeks at them, interested in what the youngers have going on again. Their bittering is always a great source of amusement for him: and he would lie if he said he doesn't like to intervene. The funnier it gets when poor Jin tries to calm them down — but not today. He has resolved their last conflict, so this time it's Namjoon's turn. That's why the eldest doesn't say anything, places plates with an omelette and vegetables in front of the two boys and sits down, sipping on his coffee.
