Can’t believe we’re already at Part 15. And again, I’m trying to keep this as PG-13 as possible haha enjoy!
“This kid totally likes you,” Nina said, lounging in the armchair in my living room and sipping from a stem-less wine glass.
“Nina, first of all, he isn’t a kid, and second of all, he was just being nice.”
She put her glass down on the coffee table and looked at me like I was five years old. “Alisha darling,” she started sarcastically, “people don’t take other people to fancy steakhouses to ‘be nice.’”
“I know but…he’s too attractive and friendly to be the relationship type.”
“Well Jay isn’t the relationship type either.”
I glared at her. “Forget about Jay, he’s history.”
“He clearly doesn’t think so. He called my office twice this morning about possibly buying the company, but honestly I think he just wanted an excuse to check on you.” Nina worked for a publishing house downtown that was always trying to be bought by bigger firms.
I groaned and lay down on the bed. Why was Jay not leaving me alone? And if he really cared, why didn’t he just call me directly?
As if reading my thoughts, Nina said “he’s ashamed of what he did.”
“How do I know he’s not going to just hurt me again?”
“You don’t. That’s the thing.”
“Well then screw him,” I said, signifying that we were done talking about him.
The next morning was a whirlwind of client meetings, random requests from Chuck, and stalking the Chester Galveston accounts.
“Alisha I need the expense report like ASAP, the Federal Reserve douchebags are literally walking into the elevator right now,” Chuck yelled through the phone.
“Chuck, I’m printing it out right now,” I said, frantically clicking the print button on my computer and glaring at Akash, who looked up at me from his phone.
I clicked the button on the receiver and dialed Zara’s number on the keypad quickly.
“ZARA GET THE EXPENSE REPORT AND GET IT TO HOLLAND ASAP.”
“I’M ON IT,” I heard her say on the other end of the line, and exactly ten seconds later I saw her half-run, half-walk in her black pumps towards Norma’s desk with a blue file in her hand. Phew.
I slammed the phone down on the dock and paced around the room, trying to relax.
“You work well under pressure,” Akash said, flashing me with his dazzling smile once again, lounging on my sectional sofa.
I flipped my hair. “It’s all part of the package,” I said. Akash raised his eyebrows.
“Is a dinner date also part of the package? It’s Friday, we deserve it.”
