Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in publishing this one, but this one’s rather long, so I hope I don’t disappoint! Again, the indenting may be a little off, I apologize for that in advance. Enjoy!
A week or two passed after our makeup. Things seemed normal again. My daily basket of flowers waited for me at my desk every morning, a brunch or dinner date every few days, and otherwise a lot of messing around, if you know what I mean. Life with Jay was just so much more colorful and meaningful. It was as if, despite the fact that I was a corporate slave, I had a purpose in life. So I decided to call my father today.
"Hi Dad how are you?"
"HONEY it's been so long!" He exclaimed, even though it had only been a week and a half. "Do you need money?"
"No Dad this isn't college."
"Then what do you need?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to talk to you!"
"Really? Because you only seem to call me when you need something."
"That's completely not true."
"Are you planning on getting married yet or what? The neighbors are getting impatient."
"DAD my marriage doesn't depend on the stupid neighbors, ignore them."
"So you're completely single then? When I was your age I had three girlfriends at one time!"
"Dad that's gross. And actually I'm seeing someone. A certain Jay Verma."
"Thank god he's Indian."
"Dad you are so old fashioned what if he was Spanish?"
"You're not pretty enough to land a Spanish dude I can tell you that much."
"You suck why did I even call you?" I could hear him laughing hysterically on the other side of the phone.
“Oh by the way darling, you’re coming to Neha’s engagement party right?” SHIT I had totally forgotten. Neha was my dad’s favorite niece, so I had to be there.
“Um…isn’t this short notice?”
“Honestly Alisha what has gotten into your head? You used to be so on top of everything and all of a sudden you’re forgetting things? Someone is screwing with your memory.” I knew he was talking about Jay.
“When does the party start?”
“This evening, around seven I think.”
“I’ll book a last minute flight right now and get there by maybe five?” I said. If it was only eleven now, I could be there in six hours, packing and convincing Jay to come included.
“Okay, see you soon!”
I hung up and immediately called Nina.
“Nina baby I’m going to be in Boston for the weekend, it’s a cousin’s engagement party.”
“…Is Jay going with you?”
“Yes he is.” Why did that matter?
She sighed. “I really needed help moving this weekend to the new apartment.”
