Back to Alisha. Enjoy!

I woke up in my own bed on Friday morning, after about a week in the hospital. Outside I could hear the constant pitter-patter of rainfall on the city. My arm was out of the sling but still in a cast, and although my leg was out of its cast, I wasn’t allowed to move faster than a turtle. I silently thanked Chuck for giving me another two weeks off to recover.

I trudged to the fridge and poured myself a glass of OJ. Jay promised he’d be here at around ten with breakfast, but unfortunately it was only nine. I collapsed on the sofa and turned on the Today Show. Watching the news was the most productive thing I could manage to do now.

The doorbell rang and I slowly got to my feet. “COMING!” It can’t be Jay, he had a spare key…

A rugged Akash stood in front of me with tousled hair and bags under his eyes. He was wearing a plain white cuffed shirt which I recognized was from J.Crew, and dark wash True Religion jeans. “Alisha…how are you feeling?”

“Akash leave me the fuck alone.”

“No,” he said firmly, inviting himself in.

“Sure, make yourself at home,” I said sarcastically.

“Alisha please forgive me.”

I sighed. “Just please go home.”

He ran his hands through his hair. “I can’t leave you in this state.”

“You didn’t seem bothered in the last six days, so why are you so worried all of a sudden?”

“I was ashamed. I’m so sorry for everything Alisha, please let me make it up to you.”

“It’s too late Akash, just leave.”

“Alisha, I’m in love with you. I’m not leaving you alone.”

“Akash, I’m not going to say this one more time. Leave.”

“Please don’t do this to me.” He looked like he was about to break down and sob in front of me.

Exactly then, the door opened with a click of the key. Shit.

“Alisha! What the hell is going on?!”

Before I had the chance to reply, Jay set a few brown paper bags on the counter and punched Akash straight in the nose. Akash fell on the ground with a thud, and I could see his nose was covered in blood. He got up and swung at Jay, which Jay swiftly dodged, sending another punch into Akash’s gut. Akash fell on the ground once again, and this time he trembled.

“JAY WHAT THE FUCK!” I held my head in my hands, trembling.

“Alisha, who is he?” Jay’s voice was low and controlled, like he held a ticking time bomb in his hands.

“JAY HE’S LITERALLY A COWORKER!”

Akash still lay on the ground, paralyzed.

“Why did he say he loved you?”

“Man, who the fuck are you?” Akash said from the ground, and Jay kicked his stomach with the toe of his oxford.

“JAY STOP. PLEASE, CONTROL YOURSELF!”

Jay’s fists were still clenched, his jawline rigid. “If you weren’t here Alisha, I would’ve done much worse.” I steadied myself against the back of the sofa, trying to regain my composure. “Why did he say he loved you?” he growled.
