Enjoy Part 8! (This one might be slightly longer than my previous few chapters, so I apologize in advance for that)
"Nina, I slept with him."
"...you did what?"
"I slept with him."
Nina took a deep breath. "I have the urge to yell at you, but I won't because I see that's not helping. But this is ridiculous Alisha. You've literally known the guy for a week. You're being crazy and irrational."
"I KNOW but this time it's different..."
"That's what you say every time."
"...I know..." I sighed.
"It's always the cocky, smart, witty douchebag. It's always the guy in the Italian suit. It's always the guy who can keep up with your jokes. It's always the jumped-up little prick who won't eat anything that's not caviar. "
"...I know..." I sighed again.
"I get that you're happy, but be realistic. What if he's using you for something and you have no idea about it? What if he just wants your body and nothing else? What if he's some international drug lord? There's so much at stake Alisha" Nina said, handing me a bottle of uncorked Merlot.
"I think you're the one being crazy now."
"I'm your best friend, how can you expect me not to be? I'm worried about this Jay dude. He sounds too perfect, and I know the type. Charming guys are always dangerous one way or another and I can't let you get hurt."
"I know...I'm not emotionally invested in him though."
"Are you sure about that? If he called you tomorrow because his mother died and he wants you to go with him to the funeral, would you go? And if you're not emotionally invested in him why are you even dating him?"
"I would go, but because I'm his girlfriend. And what I'm trying to say is we haven't even discussed anything...I'm not in love with him."
"Thank god that would be bad" Nina said, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Don't worry, it probably won't last anyway. That's the point of dating. You try people out."
"Yeah, and their genitals." I slapped Nina on the arm for that one.
"So I've come to the conclusion that you're completely not in approval of Jay, am I right?"
"It's not that I don't approve...it's just that I'm extremely suspicious of him."
"Same thing Nina."
We clinked our bottles of Merlot together and took long swigs. It was a get-drunk-and-watch-movies-with-your-best-friend kind of night. As much as Nina's advice annoyed me, I knew she was just looking out for me. Sometimes we take these things for granted. I know I have.
In the middle of Mean Girls, I got a call from Jay.
"Hey beautiful."
"Hi Jay."
"...Are you okay? You sound aloof."
"What? No I'm totally fine."
"Stop lying to me. What's wrong?" I bit my lip, trying to think of something. Nina was watching me, her eyes wide open with that raised-eyebrow look that only your mom can get away with.
"Um Nina's sick so I'm just a little stressed out."
"Oh do you need help? I could drop by with medication if you need any."
