She sat underneath the tree, her weapons beside her as she read from a book and took notes. In the background were her teammates training for their upcoming battle within the next few weeks. Resting her pen down, she grabbed the chains of her blades and examined it.
"What's your plan for today?" Kakashi sat above her while reading the lewd novel he was never seen without.
"I'm trying to find a way to unattach and reattach the chains at will. That way; I can have more control if I want to use one instead of both." She pulled the links apart and held them beside each other.
"Like a magnet?"
"Mmhm, the problem with that is, these chains are chakra conducting ones. It's hard to find the material I need to make it magnetic and conductive while also being lightweight." She sighed and dropped them. "I feel like giving up."
"Why don't you melt part of the chains and add a magnetic metal to the mixture before forming it again?"
She shook her head, "that won't do. I don't want the chains connecting randomly in battle, I want them to do it when I want. It's as if..." Her eyes widened when she found her answer. Writing it down quickly, she smiled. "Thanks Kakashi-sensei. I'll get these to the blacksmith as soon as I can."
"Oh? What was your conclusion?"
"The part of the chain I need to connect is where the magnetic field should be, as you suggested, if I were to just mix the two elements then the entire chain would be magnetic. Why don't I just find a way to have the magnetism work using my chakra instead of the chains. I'll have to look into it more."
"Ah..." He nodded, still trying to understand what she said but he shrugged. This seemed to be another one of her areas of interest besides medicine, he wasn't going to discourage her from exploring the arts of weapon making. "Sasuke! How's the jūtsu going along?"
Sasuke looked at him and focused his chakra into his hand. A short spark formed, the sounds of chirping birds filled the air before it disappeared completely. "It's going alright." He deactivated the incomplete technique and flexed his hands. "I'm still getting used to it."
"Great, keep working on it. Naruto, how about you? Your other sensei should be expecting you in a few minutes."
Naruto dusted his training pants and wiped his sweat. He was working on his stamina and strength some more, fighting against one of Kakashi's clones. "I don't want to go with that pervert." He frowned. "He's always looking at the women in the bathhouse and working on that stupid book."
Hinata somewhat disliked Naruto's other mentor who just so happened to be one of the three Sages. He was an old pervert who couldn't keep his hands or eyes to himself whenever a woman walked by. Safe to say that the feeling was mutual. She had knocked him out when she saw Naruto trying to drag him away from the bathhouse for some training.
"He promised to teach you a new jūtsu today."
"Is it really worth it when he'll leave me behind while he goes and chases some babe around the village?" He put on his shirt and grabbed his bag either way. "Hinata, please come with me." Naruto begged, "just to make sure Pervy-Sage doesn't ditch me or something."
Sighing, she closed her books and put everything she had into her backpack. "I'll be back when he's done." She shouldered her bag and followed Naruto who couldn't help but throw his arm over her shoulders as he celebrated. "If I'm not, I'll meet you there." Hinata waved to Sasuke.
When they found Jiraiya, he was too busy peeping with his spyglass to realize that Hinata stood right behind him. Naruto stifled a laugh as she tapped his mentor on the shoulder before sending him flying with a Gentle Fist to the face.
