HILD
"Tell me where I can find Kaena Raelin," I panted. The words scratched as they left my throat; I hadn't found fresh water in at least a day and I was completely parched.
The three people in front of me looked at one another.
"Well?" I encouraged.
"Why do you need to know." The girl stepped forward, crossing her arms. She had brown skin and long dark hair that reached past her elbows. It was very wavy, basically curly, but not in a pretty princess way, in an almost messy, natural way similar to mine except mine was red. She had a long white scar running across her face and while she wasn't very tall, she stood like she was. She had a knife in one hand, and was wearing tan trousers and a green tunic.
"I have a message for her." I replied, stepping closer to face her.
We were practically touching each other we were so close, and even though she was taller than me (not to mention holding a knife) I stood my ground.
The two boys looked as if they didn't know what to do. They just kept looking from us to each other in a bewildered manner. One was in full battle gear with his sword in his hand, but he'd let his arm drop by his side. The other looked more normal, a little lanky, but not dressed as though he was about to single handedly fight the five kingdoms.
"Who's this message from?" The girl snarled.
"That's something for only her ears." I replied with just as much malice.
"Okay, okay," The first boy put his sword away. "Break it up you two."
"Shut up Arthur," The girl said to him.
The second boy was about to open his mouth but the girl said, "You too Merlin."
"I'm going to ask you one more time." The girl said, very calmly uncrossing her arms and putting her knife to my throat. "Who sent you."
I looked down at the blade, glinting in the starlight. It did look sharp.
I looked up at the girl. Her eyes were dark green, like pine trees in the harsh light of winter.
"A cottage." I said. She raised an eyebrow. "A cottage on the outskirts of Camelot. Maybe by a little brook or stream. With a flower garden and vegetables growing. Strawberries in the summer. A goat for milk and chickens for eggs." I watched her expression closely. A glint of recognition in her eyes.
"Think very carefully about what you say next." She said quietly.
"Kaena." I was taking a gamble, but then again that's what I did best. "The message is from Hale." I was expecting this to calm her nerves, make her put down the knife, but instead she grabbed my shoulder and pushed me to the ground, her knee pressed onto my stomach, her knife still millimetres from my throat.
"WOAH, WOAH!" The two boys shouted, running towards us. Just as they were about to pull her off me she turned to look at them. They saw the look on her face and backed off slightly. She looked inside, her eyes were wide and frantic.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!" She screamed, her breath warm on my face. She smelled like honeysuckle and old parchment, but she looked like a wild and starving beast that had just been let loose on new prey.
"NOTHING I SWEAR!" I cried. She was pinning one of my arms to the ground, the other fell underneath my body, but I had her whole weight on me. If I could just get my arm out...
"Tell me now bitch or I swear I will skin you." I had not bargained for this when I had gone to find Hale's lost love. He told me she was caring and funny. He did mention she could be ruthless when threatened though, but still I hadn't expected this ruthlessness. I had a hot temper but I'd never been driven to this level of madness.
