Chapter 19

⚠︎
Tony

I stare out at my yard, contemplating how I can change it to look nice while I nurse my beer. Chestnut's out there now, his leash tied to the water drain. I smile at his antics. I already fucking adore this dog.

Toby wraps his arms around me, burying his face in the back of my shoulder. "Hey."

I hum happily. I really do have the perfect life. A beautiful home, a kid, couple pets, and someone I love to share it all with. "Hey, baby boy."

"Ready to do some yard work today?"

"Hell yeah. I'm excited." I pull him around me so he's leaning against my front. "Ches is too."

He grins. "Think you could get the fence up quickly? It's supposed to arrive today."

"Sure thing. You know how to do any building? Do you want a garden? I think a butterfly bush would make Sara happy."

Toby hums. "I know how. Sometimes I hurt myself with the hammer sometimes. I was thinking of also getting a little veggie/fruit garden. Some peppers, strawberries. A butterfly bush is cute though, so yeah, let's do that."

"Sounds perfect." I smile and kiss his hand. "We're building a life together, To. Did you ever think we'd get here?"

"I hoped we would." He blushes and buries his face in my chest.

"I'm so happy we are."

"Me too. I feel so lucky."

"I'll probably marry you." I hum.

He perks up. "Oh, really?"

"Yeah. It feels right."

Toby jumps into my arms and hugs me. "You keep making me happy."

I squeeze him and kiss his head. "That's cause I fucking love it when you're happy."

"You definitely succeed in making me feel loved."

"That's perfect." I hear a truck and look over towards the road. "Think that's them?"

"Yup!" He hops down.

I follow after him, checking on Sara on the way.

"Hi, Daddy!" She waves from her place coloring, Marshmallow in her lap.

"Hey sweetie. We're gonna work on the yard today so if you wanna come out and help you can." I explain. "Some men are gonna bring us the fence pieces, okay?"

She nods. "I'll go when the strangers are gone."

"Okay, good girl." I kiss her head before going out to help.

The workers bring the fencing to the backyard and then set down the posts and gate.

"Thank you!" Toby waves.

"Thanks guys." I pat a few of their backs and come over to examine the fencing. "This shouldn't take long, the real work will be pulling the grass up for your garden." I smirk at him and grab my toolbox.

Toby groans. "Yeah. Do you think I should take Sara with me to get some plants and stuff?"

I nod. "Yeah, she might find that fun."

He kisses me. "I love you. I won't keep you waiting too long, babe."

"I love you too." I bite his lip, smirking. "Have fun."
