Chapter 18: The Pointless Performance Staring The Half-Wit Charming Begins!

*Willow's/Anastasia's POV*

"Ladies and gentlemen, the Far, Far, Away Theatre at the Charming Pavilion is proud to present...
'It's A Happily Ever After After All'."

"Ugh, makes me want to throw up just hearing his name." I mumbled. "If anything, that guy should've said something on the lines of 'Ladies and gentlemen, the pointless performance staring the half-wit Charming...begins!'"

Shrek laughed lightly. "Yeah, that would be a better name for it."

"Ow!" We yelled at the same time. "Easy!"

A cyclops pulled a lever which made a machine pull tightly on the chains that were handcuffed to mine and Shrek's wrists. I'm pretty sure we've both got bruises on our wrists every time someone tightened them through that machine.

The cyclops stood up and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I guess I was just showing off for the little one."

We both looked at the cyclops a little confused. "Huh?"

"It's 'Bring Your Kids To Work' day." The dude smiled at us before turning round to call out to someone hiding in the shadows. "Come here, beautiful."

A little girl who also was a cyclops stepped out and smiled at us shyly. I smiled back and tried to give her a small wave even though it kinda hurt. "Hello." She waved back at me and giggled.

"Well, she's...got your eye." Shrek sort of complimented. I nodded in agreement.

The cyclops laughed as he happily picked his daughter up and held her in his arms. "Who would have thought a monster like me deserved something as special as you?" The father and daughter rubbed their foreheads together, smiling happily. Shrek looked away and frowned.

I smiled at him encouragingly. "You know, for what it's worth, I think you'll be an amazing father to your child, Shrek. They're going to love you no matter what."

Shrek looked at me with hope in his eyes. "You think so?"

I chuckled. "Well, I'm no parent, and my birth parents are...well...you know...but my aunt and uncle raised me to be the person I am today. Curse or not, I'm still the same person they helped raised all these years. I've been trying my hardest to be as strong as I can be, and I've done all I could to give a reason for people to look up at me for once instead of looking down at me...and not because I'm short either, before you ask."

"Thats why I love my aunt and uncle as much as they love me, and I feel the same way about my birth parents too, despite only seeing them at least once or twice. Once when I was a baby, and the other through a memory that Merlin showed me."

"A child's love for a parent, as well as the love shared between two beings that are mutual, are the most powerful spells that exists that are unbreakable even for someone as powerful as a Greek God. Nobody, not even that pathetic half-wit Charming, could take that away from you, whether you're an ogre or not."

Shrek started laughing. "You know, I'm surprised you're taking this whole curse thing pretty well, to be honest. I mean, sure, you cried a little earlier, but that just goes to show that even though you may look strong on the outside...you're actually a vulnerable person on the inside. Not a lot of people can see that."

"If the adventures we've been on together with the others has taught me anything about you, it's that you've built up walls to prevent people from getting to know the real you because you're afraid of what people might say once they find out who you really are; a smart, humorous, yet brave and caring girl who's actually been through a lot more than what people think she has in life."

I sniffled and wiped a tear away that had escaped, but still managed to laugh a little at what he said. "Thanks Shrek, it means a lot.
Seeing as I haven't got much time left, I might as well come out and say it: During the time I've gotten to know you, I've always thought of you as the older brother I've always wanted, but never had...just don't go telling Zero that, he'd try and kick my royal highness if he heard that I found another person I could happily call 'big brother'. If not, he'd quite happily get Alice to do the job instead."

Shrek smiled and chuckled. "I'm sure he would. I'm glad you feel that way, because I've always thought of you as a little sister. If I ever had one, I'm pretty sure she'd more than likely turn out to be just like you."

He stopped laughing and looked serious this time. "Listen, Willow, there's still time, you know? We could all see that Artie absolutely adores you, and if that's true, then he'll come back and tell you how much he loves you."

I sighed and looked down at the chains. "Somehow, I very much doubt that."

"If it makes you feel any better, I didn't fall in love with anybody and get married until I was in my early thirties." Shrek spoke truthfully.

I raised an eyebrow. "You got married a couple of months ago."

Shrek nodded. "Exactly."

I chuckled and shook my head. "Okay, if you say so."

"One more thing, Willow."

I looked at him confused. "Hm?"

Shrek smiled. "Happy Birthday."

I laughed and grinned at him. "Thanks, Shrek."
