To Read and To Breathe

Poems fall like rain
upon the pane
of a broken home
And the pain
of a wounded soul
Gently tapping
Sweetly sapping
and washing away
the old

all that lies hidden
and all that remains untold
can be eased and bled
from heart and head
by gentle words and bold

An early spring mist
on a dirty frozen kiss
thaws the dark snow
and takes it below
to renew what memories give

Summer swept deluge
and red running rouge
flow till rivers swell
and push to open the gates of hell
just before the beast is soothed

The rains of autumn are the best
like the reward after the test
They cool the air
as we drift unaware
So are words in repose
As we wander where no one knows
Upon a wave until we reach the crest.

Lay down your head; weary heart
Rest your eyes in the poetry of your need
Drink in the rain that soothes your pain
Take this moment to read and to breathe.
