We arrived at the Slabs close to the witching hour. It was dark and the temperature was tolerable for being in the middle of a desert.

"Here we are." Mr. Moonshine said quietly. "Welcome to your new home."

His camper was relatively large; it had some windows and was in fairly good condition. He had a porch out front with a few lawn chairs and an ashtray, as well as a few couches for guests.

"I've been living here for the upwards of ten years." He began. "The folks are awfully nice, and everyone knows each other. The crime rate is pretty low, but we do have our fun. You still thinkin' about staying in the drug business, Miss?"

"Call me Bunny, and yeah. It's the only thing I'm really good at." My mother replied as she followed him into the camper.

The inside smelled faintly of raw meat and cabbage. "Here, y'all can sleep on the top bunker." He said as he gestured absentmindedly. He pointed just above the drivers seat to a very small space where a ladder hung down. It was no bigger than a full size bed, and no taller than me at the time.

"It's the best I can do for you ladies. If you don't like it there, you can always trade the car for a small trailer. You've kept that thing in pretty good condition, who knows what someone would be willing to do for it." With that, he shuffled through the semi-unorganized camper to a little room in the very back.

Momma looked at me in the absence of light. "Honey," She rarely called me 'honey' unless she was serious. "This is the best we've got. I know it's tough, but we've gotta pull through, okay?"

In all honesty, I thought that this whole thing was more exciting than anything else. I wasn't scared the slightest. "Momma," I finally said. I looked into her muddy brown eyes that shone brightly in the light of the moon. "This is an adventure, like in the cartoons. Everybody thinks you're a villain, but I think you're a hero."

Her lip began to wobble and tears began to stream down her worn face. "I know, sweetie." She said hoarsely. "This is gonna be one dangerous adventure."
