ハイヤーグラウンド (Higher Ground)

I don't know why, but everytime I think about him, time no longer exists. It could be hours, days, even weeks. It'll still feel like seconds, whisping away with each new thought. Midoriya has seriously trapped me, and I couldn't complain about it at all.

I don't specifically know what drew me in first, but it was honestly enticing. It made me want to learn more about him, to be closer to him. I don't think I'll ever fully understand this feeling, not yet anyways. But I know for certain that it's something I've been longing, a connection I need to keep.

Stumbling from bed, I go into the bathroom. The evidence of training still remained, I guess I am going to have to deal with it again. I got ready to leave with my messenger bag across my body. Carefully, I placed the two sunflowers back into my bag so they didn't get crushed and walked out the door.

I felt a large sigh of relief as I left the house, maybe it was because I was no longer in the hands of Enji. I was free and on my way towards my only true home. Looking around, I could see there were less people than usual, I was early so most must have not arrived yet. Mina and Jirou were talking in one corner to Hagakure and Kaminari. Kirishima was pestering Bakugou again, but this time I don't think he minded as much. As usual, Aizawa was asleep in front of the classroom and...

The green head of hair was scribbling down in his notebook, mumbling to himself as he filled in the missing information. When we made eye contact, he waved me over and pulled up a chair next to him. "Good morning Todoroki~Kun!" he beamed as I sat down. "Good morning Midoriya," as soon as he got a closer look, you could tell he was horrified. "T-TODOROKI~KUN WHAT HAPPE-" I placed my hand over his mouth and shushed him before he drew attention. "I'm fine just some training stuff," he grew worried, you could tell. "With Endeavour?" He asked, I couldn't lie so of course I nodded.

Midoriya let out a large sigh before gazing around my visible bruising again. "How do you handle it so easily?" I shrugged, "Practice I guess?" Midoriya chuckled, "You're so brave..." Soon the bell had rang and the rest of our classmates settled into their seats. School went on like normal, English, Math, History, etcetera, etcetera. Then came Hero Training, the only thing I would call eventful today.

Our task was simple, a tag team scavenger hunt to figure out the villain and take the robot with their name down in our given time limit. Each round had a different villain, so there was no cheating. The pairs and lineup were provided:

1.Koda and Sero
2.Jirou and Yaomomo
3.Mina and Kaminari
4.Iida and Uraraka
5.Aoyama and Froppy
6.Kirishima and Bakugou
7.Sato and Mineta
8.Hagakure and Oijiro
9.Shoji and Tokoyami

so of course that left...

10.Todoroki and Midoriya

"TODOROKI~KUN!!" Midoriya shouted as he ran towards me. "Hey Midoriya, I guess you're on my team." He nodded ecstatically, "And we're going last so that helps me prepare! Plus I can also get some notes of our classmates, although Kacchan might yell at me again, but I don't think Kirishima~Kun will mind all that much. I have to get a few more notes on Hagakure~San too so I-"

Midoriya suddenly realized he had started mumbling again and quickly shut up, growing red in the face from embarrassment. "S-sorry.." I shook my head, "It's fine Midoriya, I like it when you mumble. It helps me know you're still you and that you haven't changed." He smiled at me, leaving me looking pink as well. Then the training started, the results were very staggered but predictable for the groups going.

First up was Koda and Sero, there were able to figure it out relatively quickly and finished with a high passing grade. Next was Jirou and Yaomomo, at the points were Jirou wasn't freaking out about the aftermath of Yaomomo's costume from her quirk, they were a pretty good team and also passed with a high scoring. Then came Kaminari and Mina, they did as well as you would expect. When you pair them together, pure chaos was a simple way to put it. They ended up barely passing only because Kaminari somehow figured it out on accident at the last second. Iida is pretty smart, so paired with Uraraka, they finished in no time. The rest of the groups took their turns and no one really failed. One particular thing that caught my eye though was Kirishima and Bakugou. They seemed to have a good understanding of eachother, and made a really good team. The two finished with the fastest time so far, which of course, Bakugou gloated about.

Soon it was our turn, I had always known we were a good team, especially after the Stain incident. But I was nervous, I wanted Midoriya to watch me and be impressed at my skills. I have never wanted validation from anyone but with him... it's different.

Midoriya and I searched all around the beginning area, over and under our surroundings. After a few minutes I called out to him, "Anything yet?" "No not y- WAIT I FOUND SOMETHING!" I quickly ran over to him and peered over his shoulder to a name card with the word "Sleep" on it. "Sleep? What does that mean?" He asked, "Maybe it has something to do with his quirk?" "So it's kind of like Midnight's quirk then?" Midoriya suggested. It seemed like the most likely option so I agreed and we continued. Soon new clues were found. A letter "T", the word "Torture", and finally, a large book containing files of each  villain around us.

"Hmm, T... Torture.... According to the list of villains, there are none named Torture around us." Midoriya looked a bit defeated as he flipped through the book. "Well, are there any other villains with a "T"?" I asked, and he continued to flip through. "AHAH! I FOUND IT! TWO VILLAINS BY THE NAME TORMENT! THAT'S KIND OF LIKE TORTURE RIGHT?" I looked over his shoulder again and saw the pictures of the robots deemed "Torment". "But which one is it?"

"Hmmm, maybe it has something to do with the other card we got?" Sleep, two different quirks for the two villains, and only one seemed to fit. "The second Torment has a quirk called 'Drousy Mist', which can put people to sleep for long periods of time. They must of got inspired by Midnight's quirk like you said Midoriya." He nodded, "That makes sense! So we just have to find that Torment!" Seeing him this excited made me excited too. "Okay, let's go."

Searching and searching through the course, we came to the only building we had yet to search. "They must be in here then..." the building was completey empty, except for the clattering upstairs, proving our theory was correct. When we got to the same floor as the Torment robot, mist was spread across the room. As an instinct, I quickly covered Midoriya's mouth and he did the same to me. I think we both kind of realized we could cover our own mouths, but at this point it was too late. Soon, the mist subsided and we were good to breath again. This was our opportunity, so both at the same time started charging at the robot.

We figured out the mystery correctly, and got very excited when we heard the bell ring, signaling we had completed it. Midoriya got ecstatic and started jumping around. Without warning, he pulled me in for a hug, slowly I hugged him back. After we pulled apart, we started to walk back to the watch zone. Clearly though, people grew curious on our closeness. Sadly, there was nothing to really report on at this point in the story. I just had to simply brush it off and continue with my day.

That doesn't stop me from thinking of that moment though.
